Variations on an original theme : for orchestra : op. 36 by
Edward Elgar(
)
272 editions published between 1899 and 2018 in 5 languages and held by 2,010 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Nimrod, the ninth variation from Elgar's masterpiece Op. 36, "Enigma Variations" (1898-99) is possibly the most recognized work in the Classical repertoire. There are so many adjectives to describe this piece of genius: Stately, majestic, serious, solemn, moving, noble, languid, stoic, enduring and sublime. There are few works in the repertoire that bring forth such strong emotions as this work, which is often performed for funerals and for Remembrance Day services. Jim Tempest's arrangement, for moderately advanced performers is scored for an 11-part Brass Ensemble of: 4 Trumpets in B-flat (includes a Piccolo Trumpet part up to a high C concert), 2 Horns in F, 3 Trombones, Euphonium and Tuba. Included are substitute Horn parts for Trumpet 3 and Euphonium (this part may also be performed on the Trombone)

Concerto for violoncello and orchestra, op. 85 by
Edward Elgar(
)
294 editions published between 1919 and 2016 in 5 languages and held by 1,863 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Edward Elgar’s concerto for violoncello, his last major work, is a cleanly structured and emotionally charged composition. It is no wonder that this work is of central importance in the cello literature. Jonathan Del Mar’s editorial skills show themselves in the exacting placement of dynamics, articulation and expression markings. The edition restores all Elgar’s solo cello fingerings and bowings and offers a facsimile of the original solo cello part in the critical commentary. Jonathan Del Mar also documents the performing tradition of the work and its recording under Elgar’s baton. This is the last word on this famous work, a reference edition for every cellist! First ever critical edition; All existing sources consulted; First ever critical commentary. - Publisher
