Values of nonatomic games by
Robert J Aumann(
)
23 editions published between 1970 and 2015 in English and held by 1,174 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The report concludes a fivepart series on the mathematical theory of nonatomic games. The term nonatomic, borrowed from measure theory and probability theory, signifies that in these games with infinitely many participants, no single individual is big enough to influence the outcome by himself. Such games have served as mathematical models for largescale competitive systems in economics or politics. In this report the applications of the theory to a class of economics models are developed

The Shapley value : essays in honor of Lloyd S. Shapley by
Alvin E Roth(
Book
)
19 editions published between 1988 and 2008 in English and held by 363 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Composed in honour of the sixtyfifth birthday of Lloyd Shapley, this volume makes accessible the large body of work that has grown out of Shapley's seminal 1953 paper. Each of the twenty essays concerns some aspect of the Shapley value. Three of the chapters are reprints of the 'ancestral' papers: Chapter 2 is Shapley's original 1953 paper defining the value; Chapter 3 is the 1954 paper by Shapley and Shubik applying the value to voting models; and chapter 19 is Shapley's 1969 paper defining a value for games without transferable utility. The other seventeen chapters were contributed especially for this volume. The first chapter introduces the subject and the other essays in the volume, and contains a brief account of a few of Shapley's other major contributions to game theory. The other chapters cover the reformulations, interpretations and generalizations that have been inspired by the Shapley value, and its applications to the study of coalition formulation, to the organization of large markets, to problems of cost allocation, and to the study of games in which utility is not transferable

Competitive outcomes in the cores of market games by
Lloyd S Shapley(
Book
)
7 editions published between 1970 and 1975 in English and held by 110 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The competitive outcomes of an economic system are known, under quite general conditions, always to lie in the core of the associated cooperative game. It is shown here that every 'market game' (i.e., one that arises from an exchange economy with money) can be represented by a 'direct market' whose competitive outcomes completely fill the core. It is also shown that it can be represented by a market having any given core outcome as its unique competitive outcome, or, more generally, having any given compact convex subset of the core as its full set of competitive outcomes

On balanced games without side payments by
Lloyd S Shapley(
Book
)
12 editions published between 1969 and 1973 in English and held by 101 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In the paper the author presents a new proof of a basic theorem of game theory, due to Scarf, which states that every balanced game without side payments has a nonempty core. The main tool is a generalization of Sperner's celebrated topological lemma concerning triangulations of the simplex

Values of large games, I : a limit theorem by
Norman Zalmon Shapiro(
Book
)
6 editions published between 1960 and 1977 in English and held by 69 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
An analysis of what happens in a weighted majority game when a block of votes is broken up and distributed among a large number of players. It is shown that the value of the game to the other players converges to a limit as the size of the largest fragment tends to zero. An explicit expression is given for the limit

A note on the LemkeHowson algorithm by
Lloyd S Shapley(
Book
)
6 editions published between 1974 and 1975 in English and held by 66 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The LemkeHowson algorithm for bimatrix games provides both an elementary proof of the existence of equilibrium points and an efficient computational method for finding at least one equilibrium point. The first half of this report presents a geometrical view of the algorithm that makes its operation especially easy to visualize. Several illustrations are given, including Wilson's example of 'inaccessible' equilibrium points. The second half presents an orientation theory for the equilibrium points of (nondegenerate) bimatrix games and the LemkeHowson paths that interconnect them; in particular, it is shown that there is always one more 'negative' than 'positive' equilibrium point

An example of a trading economy with three competitive equilibria by
Lloyd S Shapley(
Book
)
4 editions published between 1970 and 1977 in English and held by 64 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This brief note is presented as a convenience for those who wish to see what an actual numerical example of a smooth trading economy with multiple equilibria looks like in terms of an Edgeworth box diagram. The authors present a two trader two commodity example in terms of a fanciful exchange between two kinds of money

Values of large games, II : oceanic games by
John W Milnor(
Book
)
6 editions published between 1961 and 1977 in English and held by 63 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A value theory is developed for voting games in which a sizable fraction of the total vote is controlled by a few major players and the rest is distributed among a continuous infinity of individually insignificant minor players. The latter are referred to collectively as an "ocean," to suggest the total lack of order or cohesion that is assumed

Game theory by
Lloyd S Shapley(
Book
)
4 editions published between 1971 and 1979 in English and held by 63 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A layman's account of the principal concepts of game theory, written for the Academic American Encyclopedia. After a brief survey, several simple models are presented, suggestive of applications to tactical and allocation problems, political representation, evolutionary survival, etc., and the gametheoretic solutions of these models are discussed

Cardinal utility from intensity comparisons by
Lloyd S Shapley(
Book
)
6 editions published in 1975 in English and held by 62 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
A proof that a cardinal utility function is determined if changes between outcomes, as well as the outcomes themselves, can be ranked in order of desirability. It is assumed that a numerical ordinal utility function with convex range is already given, and that the ranking of changes is continuous and enjoys a certain 'crossover' property that is characteristic of difference comparisons.
