Two anti-war films by Peter Watkins -- the first, Culloden, is a dramatic reenactment of the Battle of Culloden in 1746 in Scotland between the rebellious highland Scotch forces of Bonnie Prince Charlie (Charles Stuart) and the regular British Army sent to Scotland to put down the rebellion. The battle, won by the British, was one of the most mishandled and brutal in British history. The War Game fictionally enacts the carnage and destruction that would result from a thermonuclear war between the Soviet Union and England. The film, originally intended as a BBC documentary, raises distribing questions about the societal logic that permits the existence of thermonuclear weapons

"Britain at War provides a powerful social and military history of Great Britain during World War II. Nothing can ever convey the reality of those dark days better than the memories of those who were there. That's why the creators have persuaded veterans from the army, navy, air force and the wartime civilian organisations to share their recollections on camera for the final time. The result is an extraordinary collection of interviews and testimonies from a unique generation that lived through and survived the uncertainties and horrors of World War II. Includes archival footage and graphics which are combined with fascinating cinema newsreel films to give a real taste and flavour of the times"--Container
