Dynamical systems and chaos by H. W Broer( )

18 editions published between 2001 and 2011 in English and held by 577 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Over the last four decades there has been extensive development in the theory of dynamical systems. This book aims at a wide audience where the first four chapters have been used for an undergraduate course in Dynamical Systems. Material from the last two chapters and from the appendices has been used quite a lot for master and PhD courses. All chapters are concluded by an exercise section. The book is also directed towards researchers, where one of the challenges is to help applied researchers acquire background for a better understanding of the data that computer simulation or experiment may provide them with the development of the theory

Handbook of dynamical systems by H. W Broer( )

15 editions published between 2010 and 2016 in English and held by 312 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this volume, the authors present a collection of surveys on various aspects of the theory of bifurcations of differentiable dynamical systems and related topics. By selecting these subjects, they focus on those developments from which research will be active in the coming years. The surveys are intended to educate the reader on the recent literature on the following subjects: transversality and generic properties like the various forms of the so-called Kupka-Smale theorem, the Closing Lemma and generic local bifurcations of functions (so-called catastrophe theory) and generic local bifurcations in 1-parameter families of dynamical systems, and notions of structural stability and moduli. Covers recent literature on various topics related to the theory of birfurcations of differentiable dynamical systems Highlights developments that are the foundation for future research in this field Provides material in the form of surveys which are important tools for introducing the birfucations of differentiable dynamical systems

Pseudo-differential operators quantization and signals ; lectures given at the C.I.M.E. summer school held in Cetraro, Italy, June 19-24, 2006 by Hans G Feichtinger( )

4 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 50 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Pseudo-differential operators were initiated by Kohn, Nirenberg and Hörmander in the sixties of the last century. Beside applications in the general theory of partial differential equations, they have their roots also in the study of quantization first envisaged by Hermann Weyl thirty years earlier. Thanks to the understanding of the connections of wavelets with other branches of mathematical analysis, quantum physics and engineering, such operators have been used under different names as mathematical models in signal analysis since the last decade of the last century. The volume investigates the mathematics of quantization and signals in the context of pseudo-differential operators, Weyl transforms, Daubechies operators, Wick quantization and time-frequency localization operators. Applications to quantization, signal analysis and the modern theory of PDE are highlighted
Stability of queueing networks : École d'Été de Probabilités de Saint-Flour XXXVI - 2006 by Maury Bramson( )

7 editions published in 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 44 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Queueing networks constitute a large family of stochastic models, involving jobs that enter a network, compete for service, and eventually leave the network upon completion of service. Since the early 1990s, substantial attention has been devoted to the question of when such networks are stable. This volume presents a summary of such work. Emphasis is placed on the use of fluid models in showing stability, and on examples of queueing networks that are unstable even when the arrival rate is less than the service rate. The material of this volume is based on a series of nine lectures given at the Saint-Flour Probability Summer School 2006. Lectures were also given by Alice Guionnet and Steffen Lauritzen
Séminaire de probabilités XLI by Séminaire de probabilités( )

4 editions published in 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 43 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Stochastic processes are as usual the main subject of the Séminaire, with contributions on Brownian motion (fractional or other), Lévy processes, martingales and probabilistic finance. Other probabilistic themes are also present: large random matrices, statistical mechanics. The contributions in this volume provide a sampling of recent results on these topics. All contributions with the exception of two are written in English language

Geometric properties of Banach spaces and nonlinear iterations by Charles Chidume( )

2 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 39 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Nonlinear functional analysis and applications is an area of study that has provided fascination for many mathematicians across the world. This monograph delves specifically into the topic of the geometric properties of Banach spaces and nonlinear iterations, a subject of extensive research over the past thirty years. Chapters 1 to 5 develop materials on convexity and smoothness of Banach spaces, associated moduli and connections with duality maps. Key results obtained are summarized at the end of each chapter for easy reference. Chapters 6 to 23 deal with an in-depth, comprehensive and up-to-date coverage of the main ideas, concepts and results on iterative algorithms for the approximation of fixed points of nonlinear nonexpansive and pseudo-contractive-type mappings. This includes detailed workings on solutions of variational inequality problems, solutions of Hammerstein integral equations, and common fixed points (and common zeros) of families of nonlinear mappings. Carefully referenced and full of recent, incisive findings and interesting open-questions, this volume will prove useful for graduate students of mathematical analysis and will be a key-read for mathematicians with an interest in applications of geometric properties of Banach spaces, as well as specialists in nonlinear operator theory

Information geometry : near randomness and near independence by Khadiga A Arwini( )

3 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 38 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This volume will be useful to practising scientists and students working in the application of statistical models to real materials or to processes with perturbations of a Poisson process, a uniform process, or a state of independence for a bivariate process. We use information geometry to provide a common differential geometric framework for a wide range of illustrative applications including amino acid sequence spacings in protein chains, cryptology studies, clustering of communications and galaxies, cosmological voids, coupled spatial statistics in stochastic fibre networks and stochastic porous media, quantum chaology. Introduction sections are provided to mathematical statistics, differential geometry and the information geometry of spaces of probability density functions."--BOOK JACKET
Harmonic analysis on spaces of homogeneous type by Dong-Gao Deng( )

2 editions published in 2009 in Undetermined and English and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The authors succeed in generalizing the construction of wavelet bases to spaces of homogeneous type. However wavelet bases are replaced by frames, which in many applications serve the same purpose
Foundations of Grothendieck duality for diagrams of schemes by Joseph Lipman( )

1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The first part, accessible to mid-level graduate students, is a full exposition of the abstract foundations of Grothendieck duality theory for schemes (twisted inverse image, tor-independent base change,...), in part without noetherian hypotheses, and with some refinements for maps of finite tor-dimension. The ground is prepared by a lengthy treatment of the rich formalism of relations among the derived functors, for unbounded complexes over ringed spaces, of the sheaf functors tensor, hom, direct and inverse image. Included are enhancements, for quasi-compact quasi-separated schemes, of classical results such as the projection and Kunneth isomorphisms." "In the second part, written independently, the theory is extended to the context of diagrams of schemes. This includes, as a special case, an equivariant theory for schemes with group actions. In particular, after various basic operations on sheaves such as (derived) direct images and inverse images are set up, Grothendieck duality and flat base change for diagrams of schemes are proved. Also, dualizing complexes are studied in this context. As an application to group actions, we generalize Watanabe's theorem on the Gorenstein property of invariant subrings."--BOOK JACKET
