"Médée est la fille d'un roi qui règne sur un peuple barbare et cruel dans une contrée sauvage et lointaine. Les sacrifices humains y sont un rite en usage, sous l'œil d'une toison de bélier en or qui fait figure de totem sacré. Or un guerrier du nom de Jason venu d'un pays plus civilisé est chargé par son propre roi de récupérer la pelure. En le voyant, Médée tombe folle amoureuse de lui et, avec l'aide de son jeune frère, elle livre la toison à Jason et s'enfuit avec lui. Mais ils sont pris en chasse par l'armée du roi et Médée tue son frère Apsyrtos et le découpe en morceaux qu'elle sème sur son passage, retardant ainsi les poursuivants qui s'arrêtent à chaque fois pour les récupérer. Dix ans plus tard, Médée a refait sa vie dans la ville majestueuse de Corinthe, même si elle a eu du mal à quitter sa vie de prétresse proche des grandes forces de la nature. Elle a donné deux enfants à Jason. Pourtant, le couple va mal : Jason a des ambitions pour lui et ses fils, et il décide de se marier avec la fille du roi. Ce dernier prend peur de la réaction de Médée, dont la rumeur dit qu'elle a gardé des pouvoirs mystérieux de son pays d'origine. Il décide de l'exiler. Furieuse de perdre à la fois son mari, ses enfants et sa place à Corinthe, folle de douleur, Médée invoque ses anciens dieux et ourdit un plan pour se venger. Gagnant un jour de répit, elle fait semblant de partir sans rancune et offre une tunique à Glaucé , la fille du roi. Or celle-ci est imbibée d'un onguent qui brûle la peau de la fille du roi ; cela la consume pendant des heures, il lui est impossible d'enlever la tunique et elle meurt dans d'atroces souffrances. Médée tue enfin ses propres enfants en les égorgeant et met le feu à sa maison. La scène finale montre un Jason désespéré réclamant le corps de ses enfants que Médée, environnée des flammes de l'incendie, lui refuse obstinément."--Wikipédia, consulté le 17 janv. 2014
