Introduction to automata theory, languages, and computation by
John E Hopcroft(
Book
)
96 editions published between 1979 and 2014 in English and Italian and held by 1,888 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"This classic book on formal languages, automata theory, and computational complexity has been updated to present theoretical concepts in a concise and straightforward manner with increased coverage of practical applications. This third edition offers students a less formal writing style while providing the most accessible coverage of automata theory available, solid treatment on constructing proofs, many figures and diagrams to help convey ideas, and sidebars to highlight related material. A new feature of this edition is Gradiance, a Webbased homework and assessment tool. Each chapter offers an abundance of exercises, including selected Gradiance problems, for a true handson learning experience for students."Jacket

Studies in abstract families of languages by
Seymour Ginsburg(
Book
)
13 editions published in 1969 in English and held by 209 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The notion of an abstract family of languages (AFL) as a family of sets of words satisfying certain properties common to many types of formal languages is introduced. Operations preserving AFL are then considered. The concept of an abstract family of acceptors (AFA) is also introduced and shown to give rise to an AFL. A necessary and sufficient condition on an AFL is presented in order that the AFL come from some AFA. Finally, abstract families of transducers (AFA with output) are discussed. (Author)

Fast parallel matrix and GCD computations by
Allan Borodin(
Book
)
4 editions published in 1982 in English and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
We present parallel algorithms to compute the determinant and characteristics polynomial of nxnmatrices and the gcd of polynomials of degree less than or equal n. The algorithms use parallel time O(log to the 2nd power n) and a polynomial number of processors. We also give a fast parallel Monte Carlo algorithm for the rank of matrices. All algorithms work over arbitrary fields. (Author)

A Linear Algorithm for Testing Equivalence of Finite Automata by
John E Hopcroft(
Book
)
5 editions published in 1971 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
An algorithm is given for determining if two finite automata with start states are equivalent. The asymptotic running time of the algorithm is bounded by a constant times the product of the number of states of the larger automation with the size of the input alphabet. (Author)

Modeling, mesh generation, and adaptive numerical methods for partial differential equations by
Ivo Babuška(
)
2 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
With considerations such as complexdimensional geometries and nonlinearity, the computational solution of partial differential systems has become so involved that it is important to automate decisions that have been normally left to the individual. This book covers such decisions: 1) mesh generation with links to the software generating the domain geometry, 2) solution accuracy and reliability with mesh selection linked to solution generation. This book is suited for mathematicians, computer scientists and engineers and is intended to encourage interdisciplinary interaction between the diverse groups
