Categories and sheaves by
Masaki Kashiwara(
)
18 editions published between 2005 and 2010 in English and held by 666 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Categories and sheaves, which emerged in the middle of the last century as an enrichment for the concepts of sets and functions, appear almost everywhere in mathematics nowadays. This book covers categories, homological algebra and sheaves in a systematic and exhaustive manner starting from scratch, and continues with full proofs to an exposition of the most recent results in the literature, and sometimes beyond. The authors present the general theory of categories and functors, emphasising inductive and projective limits, tensor categories, representable functors, indobjects and localization. Then they study homological algebra including additive, abelian, triangulated categories and also unbounded derived categories using transfinite induction and accessible objects. Finally, sheaf theory as well as twisted sheaves and stacks appear in the framework of Grothendieck topologies

Seminar on microlocal analysis by
Victor Guillemin(
Book
)
16 editions published between 1979 and 2016 in English and Undetermined and held by 431 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Based on a seminar sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study in 19771978, this set of papers introduces microlocal analysis concisely and clearly to mathematicians with an analytical background. The papers treat the theory of microfunctions and applications such as boundary values of elliptic partial differential equations, propagation of singularities in the vicinity of degenerate characteristics, holonomic systems, Feynman integrals from the hyperfunction point of view, and harmonic analysis on Lie groups

Topological field theory, primitive forms and related topics by
Masaki Kashiwara(
Book
)
17 editions published in 1998 in English and held by 284 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
As the interaction of mathematics and theoretical physics continues to intensify, the theories developed in mathematics are being applied to physics, and conversely. This book centers around the theory of primitive forms which currently plays an active and key role in topological field theory (theoretical physics), but was originally developed as a mathematical notion to define a "good period mapping" for a family of analytic structures. The expository papers in this volume are by participants of the Taniguchi Symposium "Topological Field Theory. Primitive Forms and Related Topics" and of the RIMS Symposium bearing the same title, both held in Kyoto. These articles reflect the broad research of some of the world's leading mathematical physicists, and should serve as an excellent resource for researchers as well as graduate students of both disciplines

Regular and irregular holonomic Dmodules by
Masaki Kashiwara(
)
11 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 263 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Dmodule theory is essentially the algebraic study of systems of linear partial differential equations. This book, the first devoted specifically to holonomic Dmodules, provides a unified treatment of both regular and irregular Dmodules. The authors begin by recalling the main results of the theory of indsheaves and subanalytic sheaves, explaining in detail the operations on Dmodules and their tempered holomorphic solutions. As an application, they obtain the RiemannHilbert correspondence for regular holonomic Dmodules. In the second part of the book the authors do the same for the sheaf of enhanced tempered solutions of (not necessarily regular) holonomic Dmodules. Originating from a series of lectures given at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques in Paris, this book is addressed to graduate students and researchers familiar with the language of sheaves and Dmodules, in the derived sense

Dmodules and microlocal calculus by
Masaki Kashiwara(
Book
)
4 editions published between 2002 and 2003 in English and Japanese and held by 237 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Masaki Kashiwara is undoubtedly one of the masters of the theory of Dmodules, and he has created a good, accessible entry point to the subject. The theory of Dmodules is a very powerful point of view, bringing ideas from algebra and algebraic geometry to the analysis of systems of differential equations. It is often used in conjunction with microlocal analysis, as some of the important theorems are best stated or proved using these techniques. The theory has been used very successfully in applications to representation theory. Here, there is an emphasis on bfunctions. These show up in vario

MathPhys odyssey 2001 : integrable models and beyond : in honor of Barry M. McCoy by
Anne Boutet de MonvelBerthier(
Book
)
14 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 211 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume is dedicated to Barry M. McCoy on the occasionofhis sixtieth birthday. Barry McCoy has led the research on integrable models in statistical mechanics and quantumfieldtheoryfor morethan 30years. Hisbook, cowrittenwithT. T. Wu, The Two dimensional/sing Model, (HarvardUniversity)containsallthebasic resultsontheIsing model obtained by the early 1970s. However, McCoy'sjointpaper with Wu, Tracy and Barouch, Spinspin correlation functions for the twodimensional/sing model: Exact results in the scaling region (Physical Review B13, 316374, 1976), was a giant step beyond the book. A remarkable connection between the twopoint scaling correlation functions and the Painleve transcendents was found. This work made an enormous impact on mathematical physics in the last quarter of the 20th century. It gave the first nontrivial exampleofinteracting field theory in which the Green function can be written explicitly in terms of special functions satisfying nonlinear differential equations. Later in the 1980s, an extensive list of massless field theories was added in the innovation of conformal field theory, in which the Green functions are characterized by linear differential equationsofthe hypergeometric type. However, evenalmost30yearsaftertheirwork, theIsingmodel isessentiallytheunique casewhereall theGreenfunctionsofmassivefield theoryarecharacterizedbynonlinear differential equations
