America's health care safety net : intact but endangered by Institute of Medicine Staff( )

16 editions published between 1900 and 2000 in English and held by 2,541 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"America's Health Care Safety Net explains how competition and issues in today's health care marketplace are posing major challenges to continued access to care for America's poor and uninsured. At a time when policymakers and providers are urgently seeking guidance, this book suggests concrete strategies that are at our disposal for maintaining the viability of the safety net - suggestions that carry with them innovative approaches to building public attention, developing better tools for tracking the problem, and designing effective interventions." "This book provides a comprehensive assessment of how safety net providers are being challenged by and responding to a more cost-conscious, price-oriented, competitive health care market."--Jacket
Assessing progress on the Institute of Medicine report The future of nursing by Institute of Medicine (U.S.)( )

4 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 685 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Nurses make up the largest segment of the health care profession, with 3 million registered nurses in the United States. Nurses work in a wide variety of settings, including hospitals, public health centers, schools, and homes, and provide a continuum of services, including direct patient care, health promotion, patient education, and coordination of care. They serve in leadership roles, are researchers, and work to improve health care policy. As the health care system undergoes transformation due in part to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the nursing profession is making a wide-reaching impact by providing and affecting quality, patient-centered, accessible, and affordable care. In 2010, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) released the report The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health, which made a series of recommendations pertaining to roles for nurses in the new health care landscape. This current report assesses progress made by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation/AARP Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action and others in implementing the recommendations from the 2010 report and identifies areas that should be emphasized over the next 5 years to make further progress toward these goals"--
Policies for an aging society( Book )

8 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 659 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Publisher description: One in eight Americans today is over the age of 65, and the proportion will increase dramatically in the future. The aging of the population has begun to drive tax and budget decisions and the federal policy agenda, as policy makers and voters look ahead to enormous demands on the health and income security programs. Indeed, it is projected that Medicare and Social Security will constitute nearly half the federal budget in the year 2030, when one in five Americans will be over 65. In Policies for an Aging Society, Stuart H. Altman and David I. Shactman have gathered experts in public and health policy, economics, law, and management to identify the salient issues and explore realistic options. From positions ranging from liberal to conservative, the contributors take a wide view of the philosophical, economic, and programmatic aspects of the social protection programs for elderly Americans. They ask broad questions and propose integrated conceptions of how our society can best provide for the needs of its aging population

Present & future supply of registered nurses by Stuart H Altman( Book )

During the 1960's, nursing education shifted dramatically away from hospital-operated diploma schools toward associate degree and baccalaureate programs. This report examines the nature of this shift in training and its anticipated impact on future supply. Other important factors affecting the future supply of nurses are analyzed, including the relative economic attractiveness of nursing compared with other professions, the proportions of female high school graduates entering and completing nurse training, and the proportion of trained nurses who are not working as nurses. A labor supply function is derived, permitting projections of labor supply and labor force participation of nurses through the 1970'S. These projections are compared with the expected demand for nurses. (Bh)
