Science and the cure of diseases : letters to Members of Congress by Efraim Racker( )

16 editions published between 1979 and 2016 in English and held by 978 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In the informal language of letters to public officials, Efraim Racker argues in favor of basic research as the most effective path to the treatment of disease. He contends that knowledge of the fundamentals of biological and biochemical processes is essential if we are to gain an understanding of disease processes. He then shows how this understanding is necessary for a rational approach to the prevention and cure of disease. Originally published in 1979. The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the d

Mechanisms in bioenergetics by Efraim Racker( Book )

30 editions published between 1964 and 2015 in 3 languages and held by 640 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Advanced Biochemistry: Mechanisms in Bioenergetics provides information pertinent to the fundamental aspects of the mechanisms in bioenergetics. This book covers a variety of topics, including the enzymatic mechanism of ATP formation and the regulatory mechanisms that control its metabolic utilization. Organized into three parts encompassing 18 lectures, this book begins with an overview of the process of converting nutrients into forms of useful energy, which is the essence of energy metabolism. This text then explores the properties that have a specific bearing on the problem of oxida

Reconstitutions of transporters, receptors, and pathological states by Efraim Racker( Book )

12 editions published between 1985 and 2014 in English and held by 326 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Reconstitutions of Transporters, Receptors, and Pathological States presents 12 lectures on the resolution and reconstitution of transporters, receptors, and pathological states. Lecture 1 discusses the reconstitution of soluble pathways, and the resolution and reconstitution of membrane complexes. Lecture 2 covers the solubilization and purification of membrane proteins. Lecture 3 explains the functions of protein and phospholipid components; the role of asymmetry; and measurement of scrambling during reconstitution. Lecture 4 presents analyses of reconstituted vesicles while Lectures 5 and 6

Cell Biology and Immunology of Leukocyte Function by Efraim Racker( )

5 editions published between 1979 and 2014 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Cell Biology and Immunology of Leukocyte Function is a collection of papers presented at the 12th International Leukocyte Culture Conference, held in Beersheba, Israel on June 1978. This book is organized into seven parts encompassing 111 chapters. The contributors cover the different aspects of cell biology and immunology and the unique leukocyte function. Part I describes the mechanism of lymphocyte activation, the structure and function of the plasma membrane, and the macromolecular synthesis during lymphocyte activation. This part also deals with the interaction of lymphocytes with mit

Explore the life of scientist and artist Efraim Racker through this website launched in 2013, the centennial year of his birth. Efraim Racker was Cornell University's first Albert Einstein Professor of Biochemistry 1966-91. He spent a long and gratifying life experimenting with science and art. The website allows visitors to explore his scientific career, research by colleagues and his art albums. From the mixed media in these thematic art albums, he created hundreds of paintings and drawings, mostly landscapes and seascapes. There are some portraits of scientists, friends, and family, especially children. Efraim Racker sold his artwork for scholarships and gave them to colleagues.
