Vom 27. Juni bis 15. Juli 1519 fand auf der Leipziger Pleißenburg eine Disputation zwischen den Reformatoren Martin Luther (1483-1546) und Andreas Bodenstein von Karlstadt (1486-1541) auf der einen Seite und dem Ingolstädter Theologieprofessor Johannes Eck (1486-1543) auf der anderen Seite statt. Zuvor hatte sich die durch die Ablassthesen Luthers und Ecks Kritik daran ausgelöste Auseinandersetzung zwischen Eck und den Wittenbergern zugespitzt. Dabei trat immer mehr die Frage nach den gültigen kirchlichen Autoritäten in den Vordergrund. Luther formulierte kurz vor der Disputation die These, dass sich der päpstliche Primat nicht auf göttlichem, sondern nur auf menschlichem Recht gründe. In diesem 1519 in Erfurt gedruckten Band gibt ein Augenzeuge den Verlauf der Leipziger Disputation wieder. Diskutiert wurden die Themen freier Wille, Buße, Fegefeuer sowie der Ablass. Im Zentrum der Debatte standen aber die päpstliche Vorrangstellung, die sich nach Luther nicht aus der Bibel begründen ließ, sowie die Konzilsautorität. Von Eck unter Druck gesetzt, äußerte Luther, dass unter den Artikeln des böhmischen Reformators Jan Hus (um 1370-1415), den das Konstanzer Konzil (1414-1418) zum Tode verurteilt hatte, auch einige gute christliche waren. Im weiteren Verlauf brachte Eck Luther zu der Aussage, dass ein Konzil irren kann und bereits geirrt hat. Damit stand der Vorwurf der Häresie im Raum. // Autor: Bettina Dankesreiter // Datum: 2016
