Attachment in social networks : contributions to the Bowlby-Ainsworth attachment theory by Louis W. C Tavecchio( Book )

14 editions published between 1987 and 2014 in English and held by 404 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The main objective of the research presented in this book is to broaden the scope of attachment theory by stressing the importance of a social network approach to the study of attachment. This approach forms the integrating theme of this volume, as is testified by various studies of attachment as it develops in an "extended" rearing context over and beyond the limits of the traditional mother-child dyad. In this connection attention is paid to the importance of sibling relationships, attachment relationships with professional caregivers, the role of the father in caring and rearing young children, and the (short-term and long-term) effects on attachment quality of maternal employment in infancy. Also, the cross-cultural validity of Ainsworth's Strange Situation is discussed, with reference to the USA, Sweden, Israel, Japan, The Netherlands, etc. In adopting a social network approach, the attachment theory proves to be a particularly useful instrument for reflecting on the consequence of social change (maternal employment, symmetrical families, socialisation of childrearing) for child development
Promoting positive parenting : an attachment-based intervention by F Juffer( Book )

17 editions published between 2007 and 2012 in English and held by 364 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book illuminates the successful implementations of one of the few evidence-based parenting intervention programs. More than 20 years ago the editors began experimenting with videotaping parental behavior in order to enhance parents' sensitivity to their children's signals. This new book presents the outcome of this effort. Video-feedback Intervention to Promote Positive Parenting (VIPP) is a brief and focused parenting intervention program that has been successful in a variety of clinical and non-clinical groups and cultures. The book opens with an introdcution to the VIPP program and the theoretical background of this parenting intervention, followed by a narrative and meta-analytical review of the attachment-based interventions. The book continues with detailed descriptions and case reports of several intervention studies of the program. It describes the implementation and testing of a variety of VIPP based interventions highlighting different families in a variety of childcare settings, and in various countries including the Netherlands, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Chapters present how the VIPP approach was implemented in samples of insecure mothers, mothers with eating disorders, preterm infants, adopted children, and children with early behavior problems

The adult attachment interview : psychometrics, stability and change from infancy, and developmental origins by Cathryn Booth-LaForce( Book )

3 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 160 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Bowlby's (1969/1982) attachment theory has inspired decades of empirical work focusing on antecedents and consequences of variation in attachment security across the lifespan. However, significant questions remain about individual differences in adult attachment and their developmental origins. We address these issues, reporting analyses based on Adult Attachment Interviews (AAIs; Main, Kaplan, & Cassidy, 1985) collected at age 18 years from the largest longitudinal sample of its kind (N=857)--participants who had been enrolled in the NICHD Study of Early Child Care and Youth Development from birth through age 15 years. Part 1 provides confirmatory evidence that relatively independent AAI dismissing and preoccupied states of mind--along with variation in inferred maternal and paternal experience--capture the full range of participants' AAI discourse. Taxometric analyses demonstrated that individual differences are more accurately represented dimensionally than categorically. Part 2 reports evidence of weak but statistically significant ability in attachment from infancy through late adolescence, and lawful sources of continuity and change over time--maternal sensitivity, father absence, paternal depression, and negative life events. A specific focus on individuals who described below-average childhood experiences in the AAI but did so in a coherent manner (i.e. "earned-secures") replicated evidence that they actually received average or better parental care, but also experienced significant family stressors in childhood. Additional analyses suggested theory-consistent developmental antecedents of the four AAI dimensions (i.e. dismissing, preoccupied, inferred maternal and paternal experiences). Together, these results represent a significant step forward in our understanding of adult attachment and its origins."--Back cover

The Effects of early social-emotional and relationship experience on the development of young orphanage children by St. Petersburg-USA Orpahnage Research Team( Book )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 19 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Undertaken at orphanages in Russia, this study tests the role of early social and emotion experience in the development of children. Children were exposed to either multiple caregivers who performed routine duties in a perfunctory manner with minimal interaction or fewer caregivers who were trained to engage in warm, responsive, and developmentally appropriate interactions during routine care. Engaged and responsive caregivers were associated with substantial improvements in child development and these findings provide a rationale for making similar improvements in other institutions, programs, and organizations. L'intervento clinico basato sull'attaccamento : promuovere la relazione genitore-bambino( Book )

2 editions published in 2005 in Italian and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
