Positive operators, Riesz spaces, and economics : proceedings of a conference at Caltech, Pasadena, California, April 1620,

Over the last fifty years advanced mathematical tools have become an integral part in the development of modern economic theory. Economists continue to invoke sophisticated mathematical techniques and ideas in order to understand complex economic and social problems. In the last ten years the theory of Riesz spaces (vector lattices) has been successfully applied to economic theory. By now it is understood relatively well that the lattice structure of Riesz spaces can be employed to capture and interpret several economic notions. On April 1620, 1990, a small conference on Riesz Spaces, Positive Opera tors, and their Applications to Economics took place at the California Institute of Technology. The purpose of the conference was to bring mathematicians special ized in Riesz Spaces and economists specialized in General Equilibrium together to exchange ideas and advance the interdisciplinary cooperation between math ematicians and economists. This volume is a collection of papers that represent the talks and discussions of the participants at the weeklong conference. We take this opportunity to thank all the participants of the conference, especially those whose articles are contained in this volume. We also greatly ap preciate the financial support provided by the California Institute of Technology. In particular, we express our sincerest thanks to David Grether, John Ledyard, and David Wales for their support. Finally, we would like to thank Susan Davis, Victoria Mason, and Marge D'Elia who handled the delicate logistics for the smooth running of the confer ence

Positive operators and semigroups on Banach lattices : proceedings of a Caribbean Mathematics Foundation conference, 1990 by
C. B Huijsmans(
Book
)
14 editions published in 1992 in English and held by 59 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
During the last twentyfive years, the development of the theory of Banach lattices has stimulated new directions of research in the theory of positive operators and the theory of semigroups of positive operators. In particular, the recent investigations in the structure of the lattice ordered (Banach) algebra of the order bounded operators of a Banach lattice have led to many important results in the spectral theory of positive operators. The contributions contained in this volume were presented as lectures at a conference organized by the Caribbean Mathematics Foundation, and provide an overview of the present state of development of various areas of the theory of positive operators and their spectral properties. This book will be of interest to analysts whose work involves positive matrices and positive operators

Riesz spaces II by
Adriaan C Zaanen(
Book
)
1 edition published in 1983 in English and held by 16 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
While Volume I (by W.A.J. Luxemburg and A.C. Zaanen, NHML Volume 1, 1971) is devoted to the algebraic aspects of the theory, this volume emphasizes the analytical theory of Riesz spaces and operators between these spaces. Though the numbering of chapters continues on from the first volume, this does not imply that everything covered in Volume I is required for this volume, however the two volumes are to some extent complementary

A new approach to the theory of monads by
W. A. J Luxemburg(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1967 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The paper deals with the general theory of monads and its applications. In its general context the theory is part of nonstandard analysis. Many new results concerning the notion of monad of a family are given. Furthermore it is shown that for a detailed description of a monad, saturated models are more appropriate than enlargements. As one of the many applications it is shown that the standard part of any internal set in a saturated model of a topological space is closed

Operator theory in function spaces and Banach lattices : essays dedicated to A.C. Zaanen on the occasion of his 80th birthday by
C. B Huijsmans(
Book
)
4 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume is dedicated to A.C. Zaanen, one of the pioneers of functional analysis, and eminent expert in modern integration theory and the theory of vector lattices, on the occasion of his 80th birthday. The book opens with biographical notes, including Zaanen's curriculum vitae and list of publications. It contains a selection of original research papers which cover a broad spectrum of topics about operators and semigroups of operators on Banach lattices, analysis in function spaces and integration theory. Special attention is paid to the spectral theory of operators on Banach lattices; in particular, to the one of positive operators. Classes of integral operators arising in systems theory, optimization and best approximation problems, and evolution equations are also discussed. The book will appeal to a wide range of readers engaged in pure and applied mathematics
