Angela Gheorghiu cada vez canta mejor, con una mayor amplitud en su instrumento y un fraseo envolvente. Daniela Barcellona es una cantante muy dotada, con facilidad para la coloratura, de potencia y calidez en su canto. Alagna, por su parte, muy musical, con una bella media voz, apianando con clase y unos agudos bien realizados aunque se le note algo justo. Julian Konstantinov a pesar de cantar con autoridad y revelar un instrumento capaz, es el más flojo del cuarteto. Los coros suenan bien conjuntados tanto en los pasajes piano, con una perfecta y clara dicción, como en los momentos en los que hay que cantar como si se estuviera ante el mismísimo abismo. Abbado hace una lectura preciosa y precisa: al mismo tiempo dramática e introspectiva con momentos de gran refinamiento orquestal. En todo momento, se percibe la intensidad y el dramatismo de una interpretación en vivo
