El ejemplar de la primera edición que custodia la Biblioteca Nacional procede de la Biblioteca de Felipe IV.€€€ €English: €This work is essential to understand the relationship between mathematics and art.€The Franciscan Luca Pacioli, an Italian mathematician of great prestige, taught mathematics in various Italian cities. During the years of his stay in Milan, and undoubtedly encouraged by his discussions with Leonardo da Vinci, Pacioli wrote his€De Divina Proportione, €ending on December 14, 1498.€The divine proportion idea could be summed up in a single proposition: the architecture (like all art) should reflect the mathematical structure of the universe. The mathematical proportion, universal principle and beauty objective, should become a point of reference for all art. The divine proportion arose in connection with the discovery of irrational numbers by the Pythagoreans and it was Pacioli who gave it that name, because of the similarities he found between the proportion and divinity: one and no more, the same proportion will be always three terms, corresponding to the Trinity; it can not be explained or defined, it is always hidden and secret, is unchanged and gives, according to Plato, the formal entity to heaven itself, in the form of a dodecahedron. Fruit of Pacioli's friendship with Leonardo Da Vinci were the sixty drawings of regular bodies that Leonardo made for€De Divina Proportione, €intended to facilitate the understanding of the text. The copy of the first edition kept by the National Library comes from the Library of Philip IV
