Rainfall-runoff modelling : the primer by K. J Beven( )

52 editions published between 2000 and 2012 in English and held by 1,213 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Rainfall-Runoff Modelling: The Primer, Second Edition is the follow-up of this popular and authoritative text, first published in 2001. The book provides both a primer for the novice and detailed descriptions of techniques for more advanced practitioners, covering rainfall-runoff models and their practical applications. This new edition extends these aims to include additional chapters dealing with prediction in ungauged basins, predicting residence time distributions, predicting the impacts of change and the next generation of hydrological models. Giving a comprehensive summary
Applied uncertainty analysis for flood risk management by K. J Beven( )

12 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 773 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This text provides an introduction for flood risk management practitioners, up-to-date methods for analysis of uncertainty and its use in risk-based decision making. It addresses decision making for both short term (real-time forecasting) and long term (flood risk planning under change) situations. It aims primarily at technical practitioners involved in flood risk analysis and flood warning, including hydrologists, engineers, flood modelers, risk analysts and those involved in the design and operation of flood warning systems. Many experienced practitioners are now expected to modify their way of working to fit into the new philosophy of flood risk management. This volume helps them to undertake that task with appropriate attention to the surrounding uncertainties. The book will also interest and benefit researchers and graduate students hoping to improve their knowledge of modern uncertainty analysis
Floods : hydrological, sedimentological, and geomorphological implications by K. J Beven( Book )

17 editions published between 1989 and 1994 in English and held by 389 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Environmental modelling : an uncertain future? : an introduction to techniques for uncertainty estimation in environmental prediction by K. J Beven( Book )

16 editions published between 2007 and 2009 in English and held by 291 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Uncertainty in the predictions of science when applied to the environment is an issue of great current relevance in relation to the impacts of climate change, protecting against natural and man-made disasters, pollutant transport and sustainable resource management. However, it is often ignored both by scientists and decision makers, or interpreted as a conflict or disagreement between scientists. This is not necessarily the case, the scientists might well agree, but their predictions would still be uncertain and knowledge of that uncertainty might be important in decision making."Environmental Modelling: an Uncertain Future?" introduces students, scientists and decision makers to the different concepts and techniques of uncertainty estimation in environmental prediction; the philosophical background to different concepts of uncertainty; the constraint of uncertainties by the collection of observations and data assimilation in real-time forecasting; and techniques for decision making under uncertainty. This book will be relevant to environmental modellers, practitioners and decision makers in hydrology, hydraulics, ecology, meteorology and oceanography, geomorphology, geochemistry, soil science, pollutant transport and climate change

Hydrology in practice by Elizabeth M Shaw( )

5 editions published between 2008 and 2011 in English and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hydrology in Practice is an excellent and very successful introductory text for engineering hydrology students who go on to be practitioners in consultancies, the Environment Agency, and elsewhere. This fourth edition of Hydrology in Practice, while retaining all that is excellent about its predecessor, by Elizabeth M. Shaw, replaces the material on the Flood Studies Report with an equivalent section on the methods of the Flood Estimation Handbook and its revisions. Other completely revised sections on instrumentation and modelling reflect the many changes that have occurred over recent years. The updated text has taken advantage of the extensive practical experience of the staff of JBA Consulting who use the methods described on a day-to-day basis. Topical case studies further enhance the text and the way in which students at undergraduate and MSc level can relate to it. The fourth edition will also have a wider appeal outside the UK by including new material on hydrological processes, which also relate to courses in geography and environmental science departments. In this respect the book draws on the expertise of Keith J. Beven and Nick A. Chappell, who have extensive experience of field hydrological studies in a variety of different environments, and have taught undergraduate hydrology courses for many years
