A study of the Rococo style, characterized by small curves, counter-curves, prettiness and gaiety, as exemplified in Schloss Brühl, an old water castle remodeled in 1725 by the prince-archbishop of Cologne, Germany. Taste at this time was dominated by the French, so an architect and a landscape gardener from France were brought in to 'Frenchify' the Schloss; the interior was adorned with shell-work and scroll-work, the walls and ceilings covered with paintings. Every detail inside and out was brought into exquisite harmony. The film is accompanied by the music of Handel and others. There is no narration

Realms of the fantastic( Visual )

1 edition published in 1992 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This short film about modern fantastic art is not meant to be a didactic or a comprehensive survey. It shows pictures by Arnold Böcklin, Max Klinger, James Ensor, Max Beckmann, Paul Klee, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Paul Delvaux, Yves Tanguy, René Magritte, Konrad Klapheck, and others, and these are set against very personal revelations or fantastic lyrics by the artists themselves. This text collage is preceded by provocative statements about the relationship between art and reality ('Art is what lies beyond reality. But what is reality?') and these are accompanied by unrealistic shots of ordinary, everyday things
