Lubetkin refers to discussions between himself and Ove Arup concerning his (Lubetkin's) initial ideas for a circular penguin pool and cantilevered diving boards, Arup's concern over providing the necessary support for these and Lubetkin's proposal to use a thickness of concrete on the inner edge of the diving board. The letter to The Architects' Journal refers to a drawing printed by the Journal described as Felix Samuely's design for the tapered ramps of the pool

He states that he built one for himself and one for Sir Peter Chalmers Mitchell, and that they were built pre-1935, the contract being signed the day after the Reichstag fire [ie. on 28th February 1933]
