4 editions published in 1996 in English and held by 18 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Robert Campin is one of the most important figures in the history of Early Netherlandish painting, yet his work, and even his identity, is still highly controversial. The nineteen studies presented here provide a range of new research from leading scholars which will provide a fresh basis for assessing Campin's oeuvre. New technical studies of several of the most important pictures in the Campin group allow a reassessment of the internal coherence of the group itself, while other studies examine a range of contemporary material in order to pose new questions concerning sources, iconography and influence and shed new light on the status of many works associated with Campin." -- Publisher's description

The Flemish primitives : the masterpieces : Robert Campin (Master of Flémalle), Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden ... by Dirk de Vos( Book )

2 editions published in 2002 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Intensely realistic, piercingly beautiful, the art of the Flemish Primitives inspires powerful emotional responses. Painted during the fifteenth century, in the southern Netherlands, these influential and enduring works helped establish the foundations of modern European painting. Sumptuously illustrated with more than two hundred color reproductions, including many newly photographed details, this gorgeous book showcases the art of these master painters of the Northern Renaissance. It focuses on thoughtfully selected major works by the most important of the artists who were later--and rather misleadingly--dubbed the Flemish Primitives: Robert Campin (the Master of Flélle), Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Petrus Christus, Dieric Bouts, Hugo van der Goes, Hans Memling, and Gerard David. Working at the hub and heart of the Burgundian realm, these artists ushered in the triumph of realism. Their new system of painting in transparent layers yielded colors of a saturation and depth never before seen and imbued their sensual human forms with a stunning luminosity. They developed new symbolic associations, experimented with light, and expressed the cultural changes taking place around them, including a heightened spirituality and the emergence of a wealthy bourgeoisie."--Publisher's description
The Master of Flémalle and Rogier van der Weyden : an exhibition organized by the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main, and the Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen, Berlin by Germany) Städelsches Kunstinstitut (Frankfurt am Main( Book )

2 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The exhibition takes a close look at two founding fathers of Dutch painting: the Master of Flémalle and Rogier van der Weyden. Around 1430, these two artists opened up completely new possibilities for the depiction of people and objects in art which would soon be enthusiastically taken up all over Europe. The painters from the southern Netherlands laid the foundations for the painting of the modern era with their discovery of the individual in the portrait and the reproduction of convincing interiors and atmospheric landscapes. Just as during their own lifetimes, their art still continues to be admired for its brilliant rendering of light and shadow as well as for the deft reproduction of a diverse range of materials. Prominent donors from across the globe have offered their support to the ambitious exhibition project, which subsequently gathers many works from the Flémalle and Rogier van der Weyden group in one place like never before. An exhibition by the Gemäldegalerie and the Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main, under the patronage of His Majesty Albert II, King of the Belgians, and Germany's Federal President, Horst Köhler, with support by Deutsche Bank
