Stellar structure and evolution by Rudolf Kippenhahn( Book )

64 editions published between 1990 and 2013 in English and German and held by 864 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This text gives a complete and comprehensive treatment of the physics of the stellar interior and the underlying fundamental processes and parameters. The models developed to explain the stability, dynamics and evolution of the stars are presented, and great care is taken to detail the various stages in a star's life. The authors have written a unique text based on their own pioneering work in stellar modeling. Since its publication, this textbook has come to be considered a classic by readers and teachers in astrophysics. This study edition is meant for students in astronomy and physics alike
Light from the depths of time by Rudolf Kippenhahn( Book )

41 editions published between 1984 and 1995 in 5 languages and held by 727 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Although this book has been available for some time, it is only now appearing in an English edition. This gives me the opportunity of adding a few explanations. I have not struggled to include the very latest, tentative results. I have, instead, concentrated on presenting cosmological ideas to interested non experts. They often encounter considerable difficulties when attempts are made to explain even long-established results in this field, so the aim of this book is to provide them with help. Naturally, I have also tried to include modern findings. To help with the explanation I have made use of the fictitious inhabi tants of Flatland, occasional historical digressions, and the dreams of Herr Meyer. Incidentally, I chose this name, which is very common in German speaking countries, to suggest an average citizen, just like the man next door. I should like to thank Springer-Verlag for deciding to publish this book in the language in which many of the discoveries described here were first formulated. I also thank my translator, Mr Storm Dunlop. Finally I thank Hanna Tettenborn for compiling the index
Discovering the secrets of the sun by Rudolf Kippenhahn( Book )

10 editions published in 1994 in English and held by 401 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

It explains how the sun is investigated, the key people and instruments involved with these discoveries, the results so far and what we still have to learn. Historical anecdotes are used as well as imaginary adventures of the ``man-in-the-street, '' Herr Meyer
Stellar structure and evolution by Rudolf Kippenhahn( )

1 edition published in 2013 in English and held by 268 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This long-awaited second edition of the classical textbook on Stellar Structure and Evolution by Kippenhahn and Weigert is a thoroughly revised version of the original text. Taking into account modern observational constraints as well as additional physical effects such as mass loss and diffusion, Achim Weiss and Rudolf Kippenhahn have succeeded in bringing the book up to the state-of-the-art with respect to both the presentation of stellar physics and the presentation and interpretation of current sophisticated stellar models. The well-received and proven pedagogical approach of the first edition has been retained. The book provides a comprehensive treatment of the physics of the stellar interior and the underlying fundamental processes and parameters. The models developed to explain the stability, dynamics and evolution of the stars are presented and great care is taken to detail the various stages in a star's life. Just as the first edition, which remained a standard work for more than 20 years after its first publication, the second edition will be of lasting value not only for students but also for active researchers in astronomy and astrophysics
Bound to the sun : the story of planets, moons, and comets by Rudolf Kippenhahn( Book )

4 editions published in 1990 in English and held by 225 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Physical processes in comets, stars, and active galaxies : proceedings of a workshop, held at Ringberg Castle, Tegernsee, May 26-27, 1986 by W Hillebrandt( Book )

4 editions published in 1987 in English and held by 148 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains the lectures presented at a workshop at Ringberg Castle in 1986 on Interstellar Magnetic Fields on the occasion of the 60th birthdays of Rudolf Kippenhahn and Hermann Ulrich Schmidt. It covers a wide span of seemingly disparate topics ranging from comets, the sun, single and binary stars to active galactic nuclei. Although the astrophysical objects addressed are quite different, the physical processes involved are very much the same. The emphasis on the common physics underlying this wide variety of celestial phenomena makes this a unique book for researchers and students of astrophysics and astronomy
