MULTISPECTRAL TEXTURE DERIVATION IN VIRTUAL COLORING
Computer Vision Using Local Binary Patterns by Matti Pietikäinen( )

16 editions published between 2011 and 2013 in English and held by 449 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The recent emergence of Local Binary Patterns (LBP) has led to significant progress in applying texture methods to various computer vision problems and applications. The focus of this research has broadened from 2D textures to 3D textures and spatiotemporal (dynamic) textures. Also, where texture was once utilized for applications such as remote sensing, industrial inspection and biomedical image analysis, the introduction of LBP-based approaches have provided outstanding results in problems relating to face and activity analysis, with future scope for face and facial expression recognition, biometrics, visual surveillance and video analysis. Computer Vision Using Local Binary Patterns provides a detailed description of the LBP methods and their variants both in spatial and spatiotemporal domains. This comprehensive reference also provides an excellent overview as to how texture methods can be utilized for solving different kinds of computer vision and image analysis problems. Source codes of the basic LBP algorithms, demonstrations, some databases and a comprehensive LBP bibliography can be found from an accompanying web site. Topics include: - Local binary patterns and their variants in spatial and spatiotemporal domains - Texture classification and segmentation, description of interest regions - Applications in image retrieval and 3D recognition - Recognition and segmentation of dynamic textures - Background subtraction, recognition of actions - Face analysis using still images and image sequences, visual speech recognition - LBP in various applications Written by pioneers of LBP, this book is an essential resource for researchers, professional engineers and graduate students in computer vision, image analysis and pattern recognition. The book will also be of interest to all those who work with specific applications of machine vision
Machine vision for advanced production( Book )

9 editions published between 1995 and 1996 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Machine vision technology has created a strong interest among research organizations, resulting in many innovative products. Despite this end users have been very skeptical towards machine vision and its robustness in harsh industrial environments. This book presents the results of a national machine vision technology program aimed at boosting research and putting research results to work in practical industrial applications. The topics to be covered include image acquisition, analysis of surface color and texture, applications of machine vision in surface inspection and process control, 3-D measurements, and CAD-based machine vision
Machine learning for vision-based motion analysis : theory and techniques by Liang Wang( )

9 editions published between 2010 and 2011 in English and held by 27 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Techniques of vision-based motion analysis aim to detect, track, identify, and generally understand the behavior of objects in image sequences. With the growth of video data in a wide range of applications from visual surveillance to human-machine interfaces, the ability to automatically analyze and understand object motions from video footage is of increasing importance. Among the latest developments in this field is the application of statistical machine learning algorithms for object tracking, activity modeling, and recognition. Developed from expert contributions to the first and second In

Texture classification using averages of local pattern matches by Matti Pietikäinen( Book )

3 editions published in 1981 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Laws has introduced a class of texture features based on average degrees of match of the pixel neighborhoods with a set of standard masks. These features yield better texture classification than standard features based on pairs of pixels. This paper investigates simpifications of these features, and shows that their performance is not greatly affected by their exact form, and also appears to remain the same if only local match maxima are used. It also presents an alternative definition of such features based on sums and differences of Gaussian convolutions
Edge-based texture measures by Matti Pietikäinen( Book )

5 editions published in 1981 in English and Undetermined and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A class of texture measures is introduced based on first-order statistics derived from edges in the image. These measurement are related to the generalized cooccurrence features of Davis et al. They yield good discrimination among textures on perceptually plausible grounds. (Author)

Edge information in color images based on histograms of differences by Matti Pietikäinen( Book )

4 editions published in 1985 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A new measure of edge information for color images based on cumulative histograms of absolute color differences is proposed. A multispectral version of the Symmetric Nearest Neighbor filter for edge-preserving smoothing and methods for image segmentation and edge detection are developed based on this measure. Experimental results show that the performance of the new algorithms is very good. The analysis of color images has received little attention in computer vision research, in spite of the facts that color plays an important role in human vision and that color should also provide much useful information for many image analysis applications

On the use of hierarchically computed "Mexican Hat" features for texture discrimination by Matti Pietikäinen( Book )

3 editions published in 1980 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Bandpass Laplacian-like operators derived by a hierarchical discrete correlation technique provide natural measures of texture coarseness. This performance of these measures on a standard set of geological terrain types is comparable to that of conventional texture features that do not use directional information. (Author)

Image Segmentation by Texture Using Pyramid Node Linking by Matti Pietikäinen( Book )

4 editions published in 1981 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In a 'pyramid' of successively reduced-resolution versions of an image, by linking nodes representing image blocks to nodes representing nearby larger blocks that most closely resemble them, we can construct trees (defined by the links) representing homogeneous parts of the input image. In this paper, we apply this approach to segmenting an image on the basis of texture. We start from an initial decomposition of the image into small blocks (e.g., 8 by 8); compute a textural property for each block, yielding an array of property values; build a 'pyramid' of reduced-resolution versions of this array; and apply the node linking process to this pyramid. The resulting trees define a segmentation of the original image into unions of the small blocks. This segmentation is similar to that obtained by minimum-error thresholding of the textural property values. Substantially better results are obtained when this 'bottom-up' block linking process is preceded by a 'top-down' process in which large homogeneous blocks are linked to all of their subblocks; the bottom-up linking is then used only for the blocks that were not linked by the top-down process.
