Nuremberg : les Nazis face à leurs crimes( Visual )

1 edition published in 2006 in French and held by 228 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Nuremberg, November 20, 1945--The trials of Nazi war criminals begins in a city still in ruins, barely six months after the Germans' surrender. The United States, France, Great Britain and the USSR unite to deliver exemplary justice in response to crimes against peace and, for the first time in history, to "crimes against humanity". On the accused bench sit 21 of the highest Nazi dignitaries, including Hermann Göring, Rudolph Hess, Joachim von Ribbentrop and Wilhelm Keitel. They all plead not guilty, although the "atrocities" committed are tremendous. As evidence, films of the liberation of the concentration camps would be screened, an unprecedented move, during the proceedings. Evidence is presented, confrontations arise, testimonies of executioners and victims are heard. After 10 months of hearings, the verdict is rendered: 12 defendants sentenced to death penalties, including one in absentia, seven sentenced to prison and three acquitted. Thus ends the trial that paved the way for the creation of international tribunals."--Container
The unknown war( Visual )

1 edition published in 2011 in English and held by 136 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1978, the Soviet Union produced "The Unknown War" as something of a response to the 1973 U.S. series "The World At War" feeling that the latter series shortchanged the role that Russia played in WWII. While not outright propaganda, it is resolutely pro-Soviet, glorifying their soldiers and people. This includes episodes about everyday life for Russians during the war, and how the Soviet government moved their production facilities to Siberia to escape the Nazis (and ended up being the most productive country during the war). Despite plentiful, revelatory unearthed combat footage, it feels rather stodgy, which--given that it was commissioned by the Soviet government--is not all that surprising

Russian-made documentary on the Nuremberg trials of Nazi war criminals, which offers a uniquely Soviet perspective on the historic events. Includes both trial footage and film used by the prosecution to show the Nazis' various crimes against humanity (including chilling actual footage of Hitler and many of those on trial, including members of his cabinet, party leaders, and officers from the German army, the SS and the Gestapo). Focuses on the Russian prosecutors and the crimes committed against the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, especially the attack on the Soviet Union, but acknowledges the German submarine war against the British in the Atlantic Ocean. Does not mention the Jewish Holocaust
