Fibonacci's Liber abaci : a translation into modern English of Leonardo Pisano's Book of calculation by Leonardo Fibonacci( Book )

12 editions published between 2002 and 2003 in English and German and held by 550 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Though it is now mostly known for introducing the Hindu number system and the algorithms of arithmetic that children now learn in grade school, Liber Abaci is much more: It is an encyclopaedia of thirteenth-century mathematics, both theoretical and practical. It develops the tools rigorously, establishes them with Euclidean proofs, and then shows how to apply them to all kinds of situation in business and trade, including conversion of measures and currency, allocations of profit, computation of interest, and alloying of currencies. It is rigorous mathematics, well applied, and vividly described." "As the first translation into a modern language of the Liber Abaci, this book will be of interest not only to historians of science, but to all mathematicians and mathematics teachers interested in the origins of their methods."--BOOK JACKET
Fibonacci's De practica geometrie by Leonardo Fibonacci( )

18 editions published between 1862 and 2011 in 4 languages and held by 536 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Leonardo da Pisa, perhaps better known as Fibonacci (ca 1170-ca 1240), selected the useful parts of Greco-Arabic geometry for the book known as "De Practica Geometrie". This translation offers a reconstruction of "De Practica Geometrie" as the author judges Fibonacci wrote it, thereby correcting inaccuracies found in numerous modern histories

The book of squares by Leonardo Fibonacci( Book )

14 editions published between 1978 and 1988 in English and held by 45 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The Book of Squares by Fibonacci is a gem in the mathematical literature and one of the most important mathematical treatises written in the Middle Ages. It is a collection of theorems on indeterminate analysis and equations of second degree which yield, among other results, a solution to a problem proposed by Master John of Palermo to Leonardo at the Court of Frederick II. The book was dedicated and presented to the Emperor at Pisa in 1225. Dating back to the 13th century the book exhibits the early and continued fascination of men with our number system and the relationship among numbers with special properties such as prime numbers, squares, and odd numbers. The faithful translation into modern English and the commentary by the translator make this book accessible to professional mathematicians and amateurs who have always been intrigued by the lure of our number system

Finding Fibonacci : the quest to rediscover the forgotten mathematical genius who changed the world by Keith J Devlin( Book )

2 editions published between 2017 and 2019 in English and held by 22 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 2000, Keith Devlin set out to research the life and legacy of the medieval mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, popularly known as Fibonacci, whose book Liber abbaci has quite literally affected the lives of everyone alive today. Although he is most famous for the Fibonacci numbers--which, it so happens, he didn't invent--Fibonacci's greatest contribution was as an expositor of mathematical ideas at a level ordinary people could understand. In 1202, Liber abbaci--the "Book of Calculation"--Introduced modern arithmetic to the Western world. Yet Fibonacci was long forgotten after his death, and it was not until the 1960s that his true achievements were finally recognized. Finding Fibonacci is Devlin's compelling firsthand account of his ten-year quest to tell Fibonacci's story. Devlin, a math expositor himself, kept a diary of the undertaking, which he draws on here to describe the project's highs and lows, its false starts and disappointments, the tragedies and unexpected turns, some hilarious episodes, and the occasional lucky breaks. You will also meet the unique individuals Devlin encountered along the way, people who, each for their own reasons, became fascinated by Fibonacci, from the Yale professor who traced modern finance back to Fibonacci to the Italian historian who made the crucial archival discovery that brought together all the threads of Fibonacci's astonishing story. Fibonacci helped to revive the West as the cradle of science, technology, and commerce, yet he vanished from the pages of history. This is Devlin's search to find him. -- Back cover
