"Wenn Zimmermann das Adagio aus dem G-Dur-Konzert spielt, diesen großen, schlicht anmutenden Bogen, dann wandeln sich zwar die Farben mit den Saiten, aber selbst in der höchsten Saite tönt noch das sonore der tiefsten. G, D, A, E sind weniger Register als Zonen eines Körpers und einer Seele, und sie spiegeln die Orchesterfarben, das Pizzicato der Celli, die Hörner, die Flöten, die sanften Streicher. Eine Geige mit einer echten Stimme, reif und wissend. Lebendig und sensibel agiert Zimmermann hier, trifft sich auch mit Mozarts Witz im Rondo, ohne den eigenen Ernst zu verleugnen. Denn ein Charmeur wie Fritz Kreisler, sein Vorgänger bei Lady Inquichin, ist er nicht, auch das dämonisch Unberechenbare, das Gidon Kremer dem Konzert vor 30 Jahren gab, ist ihm fern. Zimmermann ist ein kluger, integrer Handwerker mit Sinn für Meisterwerke. Den jüngeren Mozart aber, den 17-Jährigen, der im B-Dur-Konzert noch ein paar Eierschalen abwirft, verfehlt er" (zeit.de)
