An introduction to the theory of numbers by G. H Hardy( Book )

155 editions published between 1938 and 2011 in 4 languages and held by 2,971 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The sixth edition of the classic undergraduate text in elementary number theory includes a new chapter on elliptic curves and their role in the proof of Fermat's Last Theorem, a foreword by Andrew Wiles and extensively revised and updated end-of-chapter notes
A mathematician's apology by G. H Hardy( Book )

143 editions published between 1940 and 2012 in 12 languages and held by 2,567 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

One of the main themes of the book is the beauty that mathematics possess, which Hardy compares to painting and poetry. For Hardy, the most beautiful mathematics was that which had no applications in the outside world, by which he meant pure mathematics, and, in particular, his own special field of number theory. He justifies the pursuit of pure mathematics with the argument that its very "uselessness" meant that it could not be misused to cause harm. On the other hand, Hardy denigrates applied mathematics, describing it as "ugly", "trivial" and "dull."
A course of pure mathematics by G. H Hardy( Book )

165 editions published between 1903 and 2012 in English and Polish and held by 2,327 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Since its publication in 1908, G.H. Hardy's Pure Mathematics has been a classic work to which successive generations of budding mathematicians have turned at the beginning of their undergraduate courses. In its pages, Hardy combines the enthusiasm of the missionary with the rigour of the purist in his exposition of the fundamental ideas of the differential and integral calculus, of the properties of infinite series and of other topics involving the notion of limit."--Jacket
Inequalities by G. H Hardy( Book )

125 editions published between 1925 and 2004 in 5 languages and held by 1,608 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This classic of the mathematical literature forms a comprehensive study of the inequalities used throughout mathematics. First published in 1934, it presents clearly and exhaustively both the statement and proof of all the standard inequalities of analysis. The authors were well known for their powers of exposition and were able here to make the subject accessible to a wide audience of mathematicians

Fourier series by G. H Hardy( Book )

80 editions published between 1944 and 2013 in 4 languages and held by 865 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Geared toward mathematicians already familiar with the elements of Lebesgue's theory of integration, this classic, graduate-level text begins with a brief introduction to some generalities about trigonometrical series. Discussions of the Fourier series in Hilbert space lead to an examination of further properties of trigonometrical Fourier series, more. 1956 edition

The general theory of Dirichlet's series by G. H Hardy( Book )

53 editions published between 1915 and 2013 in English and held by 554 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This classic work explains the theory and formulas behind Dirichlet's series and offers the first systematic account of Riesz's theory of the summation of series by typical means. Its authors rank among the most distinguished mathematicians of the twentieth century: G. H. Hardy is famous for his achievements in number theory and mathematical analysis, and Marcel Riesz's interests ranged from functional analysis to partial differential equations, mathematical physics, number theory, and algebra.Following an introduction, the authors proceed to a discussion of the elementary theory of the conver
