Ethnic group and social class variations in households and families of Nashua, New Hampshire, 1850-1900 by Robin Roth Glauber( )

Aggregative analysis of the community produced much evidence anomalous with popular developmental theories of family change as related to industrialization. Significant differences were found between native born, French-Canadians, and Irish for almost all the variables analyzed in this study. Furthermore, there was not a clear and consistent dichotomy between the native born and the two immigrant groups. Class analysis similarly revealed significant intergroup differences with respect to family and household traits and patterns of change
