Artemis Quartet holder til i Berlin, og ble dannet i 1989. Denne Shubert-platen er den første med de nye fiolinistene Gregor Sigl og Friedmann Weigle. Innspillingen ble gjort umiddelbart etter en konsert under Salzburg festivalen i 2007

I 1880 ble Tchaikovsky spurt av Nadezhda von Meck om han kunne skrive en klavertrio til hennes hustrio (der bl.a. den unge Debussy var med). Først avslo han, men etter litt overtalelse tok han til slutt på seg oppdraget. Han skrev den først og fremst for den utmerkede trioens skyld, derfor har da også trioen vært en favoritt for denne type ensembler helt siden den ble uroppført. Her får vi høre tre av verdens absolutt fineste musikere i dette populære verket, inkl. vår egen verdensstjerne Truls Mørk på cello og den russiske pianisten Yefim Bronfman. Dette er kammermusikk på sitt aller beste!
