This collection contains forty items primarily related to the work of railroad agent and California Development Company receiver W.H. Holabird (1845-1921), as well as some personal and ephemeral items. The first and largest series (HM 73863-73875) is comprised of documents and correspondences related to Holabird's survey of Miller and Lux's property for Southern Pacific in 1909. Holabird's surveys were in response to the Southern Pacific's interest in purchasing Miller and Lux and its various holdings. There is one letter by Henry Miller to Holabird. Series two (HM 73876-73878) concerns a handful of papers, reports, and other documents related to Holabird's time as receiver and general manager of the California Development Company. Series three (HM 73879-73884) is made up of various reports Holabird wrote during and after his trips to the Philippines, Manchuria, and Siberia while working for E.H. Harriman and the Southern Pacific Railroad. This section also includes related correspondences regarding Manchuria with New York City-based journalist George Kennan (1845-1924). The final series (HM 73885-73892) includes a number of miscellaneous items: a photograph of Holabird, biographical and autobiographical materials, letters, and World War I-era essays written by Holabird regarding nationalism and communism; it also includes a folder of ephemera with two copies of the Los Angeles Times announcing Holabird's death and a newspaper clipping written by Holabird on agriculture and irrigation in the Imperial Valley

Consists of records for the Sanjon de Santa Rita land grant collected or created by Miller & Lux. Includes one volume, in vellum, issued by the General Land Office of the United States on 1862 Nov. 15 and signed by President Abraham Lincoln granting Francisco Soberanes the land of Sanjon de Santa Rita. The volume includes an 1861 map of the plot surveyed by C.C. Tracy of the U.S. Surveyor General's Office in San Francisco. Along with the volume is a copy of a Surveyor General transcript, dated 1862 Oct. 10, confirming that the land had been surveyed. Also included is a report, dated 1885 Sept. 29, from F.A. Hyde to Miller & Lux describing his examination of the land patent from Sanjon de Santa Rita. Attached to the report are both Spanish and English copies of Francisco Soberanes' 1841 petition to the Mexican government for a land grant, a confirmation of the grant, and a map. The collection also contains an 1888 Sept. 5 letter from Henry Miller to James. C. Crocker concerning the settlement of suits against James Ben Ali Haggin to prevent him and his canal companies from taking water from the Kern river
