Commutative algebra : proceedings of a microprogram held June 15-July 2, 1987 by Melvin Hochster( Book )

13 editions published in 1989 in English and held by 317 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The papers in this volume, some of which are expository, some strictly research, and some a combination, reflect the intent of the program. They give a cross-section of what is happening now in this area. Nearly all of the manuscripts were solicited from speakers at the conference, and in most instances the manuscript is based on the conference lecture. The editors hope that they will be of interest and of use both to experts and neophytes in the field

Tight closure and its applications by C Huneke( Book )

14 editions published between 1966 and 1996 in English and held by 273 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This monograph deals with the theory of tight closure and its applications. The contents are based on ten talks given at a CBMS conference held at North Dakota State University in June 1995. Tight closure is a method to study rings of equicharacteristic by using reduction to positive characteristic. In this book, the basic properties of tight closure are covered, including various types of singularities, e.g. F-regular and F-rational singularities. Basic theorems in the theory are presented including versions of the Briançon-Skoda theorem, various homological conjectures, and the Hochster-Robe

Commutative Algebra by William J Heinzer( )

1 edition published in 1994 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains refereed papers on themes explored at the AMS-IMS-SIAM Summer Research Conference, Commutative Algebra: Syzygies, Multiplicities, and Birational Algebra, held at Mount Holyoke College in 1992. The conference featured a series of one-hour invited lectures on recent advances in commutative algebra and interactions with such areas as algebraic geometry, representation theory, and combinatorics. The major themes of the conference were tight closure Hilbert functions, birational algebra, free resolutions and the homological conjectures, Rees algebras, and local cohomology. With

Six lectures on commutative algebra by J Elias( Book )

1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"Interest in commutative algebra has surged over the past decades. In order to survey and highlight recent developments in this rapidly expanding field, the Centre de Recerca Matematica in Bellaterra organized a ten-days Summer School on Commutative Algebra in 1996. Lectures were presented by six high-level specialists, L. Avramov (Purdue), M.K. Green (UCLA), C. Huneke (Purdue), P. Schenzel (Halle), G. Valla (Genova) and W.V. Vasconcelos (Rutgers), providing a fresh and extensive account of the results, techniques and problems of some of the most active areas of research. The present volume is a synthesis of the lectures given by these authors. Research workers as well as graduate students in commutative algebra and nearby areas will find a useful overview of the field and recent developments in it."--Pub. desc
Trends in commutative algebra( Book )

2 editions published between 2004 and 2005 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This book is based on lectures by six internationally known experts presented at the 2002 MSRI introductory workshop on commutative algebra. They focus on the interaction of commutative algebra with other areas of mathematics, including algebraic geometry, group cohomology and representation theory, and combinatorics, with all necessary background provided. Short complementary papers describing work at the research frontier are also included. The unusual scope and format make the book invaluable reading for graduate students and researchers interested in commutative algebra and its various uses
Trends in Commutative Algebra. Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Publications, Volume 51( )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

In 2002, an introductory workshop was held at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute in Berkeley to survey some of the many new directions of the commutative algebra field. Six principal speakers each gave three lectures, accompanied by a help session, describing the interaction of commutative algebra with other areas of mathematics for a broad audience of graduate students and researchers. This book is based on those lectures, together with papers from contributing researchers. David Benson and Srikanth Iyengar present an introduction to the uses and concepts of commutative algebra in the cohomology of groups. Mark Haiman considers the commutative algebra of n points in the plane. Ezra Miller presents an introduction to the Hilbert scheme of points to complement Professor Haiman's paper. Further contributors include David Eisenbud and Jessica Sidman; Melvin Hochster; Graham Leuschke; Rob Lazarsfeld and Manuel Blickle; Bernard Teissier; and Ana Bravo
