Abstract : Ball-type zinc and gallium phthalocyanines were covalently linked to graphene and semiconductor quantum dots resulting in enhanced triplet parameters and nonlinear optical performance. Abstract : The synthesis of ball-type zinc and gallium phthalocyanines (complexes2 and3 ) and their covalent linkage to glutathione (GSH) and amine functionalized quantum dots (QDs) are reported in this work. Furthermore, their photophysical, photo-induced resonance energy transfer and optical limiting responses were investigated. We observed a decrease in the fluorescence quantum yields with a corresponding increase in the triplet quantum yields of the nanoconjugates in comparison to the phthalocyanine complexes alone. The reverse saturable absorption was found to be dependent on the excited state absorption, and the observed limiting threshold ranged from 0.32 to 1.43 J cm −2 . Enhanced triplet parameters and nonlinear optical performance were found when the complexes were covalently linked to semiconductor quantum dots compared to carbon based graphene quantum dots

Abstract: Zinc monocarboxyphenoxy and tetracarboxyphenoxy phthalocyanines were covalently linked with three different sizes of glutathione capped core/shell/shell {CdTe/CdS/ZnS(4.2), CdTe/CdS/ZnS(5.1) and CdTe/CdS/ZnS(6.7)}; a core shell {CdTe/CdS(3.1)} and core {CdTe(2.4)} quantum dots. The physicochemical behavior and Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) processes of the nanohybrids were investigated. The highest FRET efficiency was observed with CdTe/CdS/ZnS(6.7) nanohybrids with 98% and the least efficiency was observed with CdTe(2.4) nanohybrids with 85%. The CdTe/CdS/ZnS(6.7) also showed the best physicochemical behavior. These good physicochemical properties make the synthesized nanohybrids viable photosensitizers

Graphical abstract: Nonlinear optical properties of In-phthalocyanine tetra-substituted 5-hexyl-1-ol and 2-propyl-1-ol on the peripheral positions are presented with the latter showing better behavior. Abstract: We report on the synthesis, photophysical and nonlinear optical behavior of tetra-substituted alkynyl indium phthalocyanine complexes (3a and3b ). Both complexes showed large triplet quantum yields. Nonlinear optical properties were also evaluated for the two complexes at a wavelength of 532 nm using nanosecond Z-scan technique in dimethylsulfoxide. We observed two-photon absorption (2PA) and strong reverse saturable absorption (RSA) as the dominant mechanisms at nanosecond laser excitation. The underlining 2PA and observed RSA were subjected to further scrutiny by comparing the analytical absorption model to the transmittance optical absorption theory. The theoretical results were in good agreement to the observed RSA and the 2PA mechanism. Large two-photon absorption cross-section (1.29 × 10 −42 and 1.15 × 10 −42  cm 4  s/photon), third-order susceptibility (2.10 × 10 −14 and 2.15 × 10 −14  esu) and hyperpolarizability (2.70 × 10 −32 and 3.19 × 10 −32  esu) were estimated for complex3a and3b, respectively
