"As Szindbád contemplates his life of hedonism and romance, the film powerfully evokes the passage of time and the exploration of memory through extraordinarily beautiful imagery. An erotic elegy, at once lyrical and surreal, Szindbád is a work of intoxicating, almost overwhelming physical beauty - a unique experience unlike any other in modern cinema."--Container

"Budapest, 1950. Set in the early fifties this film is centred on a young boy, working as an apprentice, who is hindered by political events from gaining a higher education. This film is apparently autobiographical and is in the spirit of a poem by Endre Ady ('the stone you throw returns to earth ... always returns'). A divided country is depicted united only by a common hatred of foreigners. Sara seems to identify with the basic frankness of Greek immigrants and groups of gypsies
