A survey of the legal situation of the Jews in Italy from the Napoleonic era until 1989. Ch. 3, "Il ritorno alla disegualianza dei culti, " deals with the body of discriminatory laws and decrees enacted between 1929-31, regulating the life of the Jews as a religious community. Ch. 4, "Il ritorno alla disegualianza dei cittadini, " presents and discusses racist legislation between 1938-43. Explains that the laws of 1929-31 introduced a different treatment for Catholics as opposed to others. These laws annulled the equality in status granted to the Jews by Italian legislation in the late 19th-early 20th centuries. Asserts that inequality of cults was the first step on the road leading to the inequality of the citizens, approved by the racist laws between 1938-43, which established discriminatory norms and encouraged anti-Jewish persecution
