Jean Béliveau a débuté sa carrière en 1946 avec les Panthers de Victoriaville et il s'est retiré en 1971 en gagnant sa dixième Coupe Stanley. Il a commencé sa carrière professionnelle chez le Canadien de Montréal en 1953, le Gros Bill comme on l'avait surnommé a gagné 10 coupes Stanley en 18 saisons. En 1961, Jean Béliveau a été élu capitaine par ses coéquipiers, le plus grand honneur de sa carrière de hockeyeur selon lui. Un an après sa retraite en 1971, il était admis au Temple de la renommée.
