An American sculptor, painter, & installation artist, Paul Thek (1933-1988) is primarily known for hyper-realistic works of human body parts executed in fleshlike beeswax & for his strongly symbolic, room-size installations constructed from transitory materials. Paul Thek in process by Susanne Neubauer( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 79 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In 1971, Harald Szeeman invited the American sculptor and installation pioneer Paul Thek (1933-1988) to contribute to documenta 5. Szeemann had titled one section of the exhibition 'Individual mythologies, ' describing a new kind of art structured around mythologies invented by artists, rather than by a culture. Thek's contribtion came to be seen as a paradigm of this trope. -- Paul Thek in process evolved out of the discovery of an unrealized publication project initiated while installing his first space-filling environment, Pyramid/A work in progress at the Moderna Museet, Stockholm, in the winter of 1971, which was to have been released for documenta 5. For this endeavor, an extraordinary number of images were taken-about 800-capturing the progress of the installation, the opening, and the final state of this pivotal work of 1970s installation art"--Page 4 of cover

A document made by Paul Thek and Edwin Klein by Paul Thek( Book )

7 editions published between 1969 and 2011 in English and held by 57 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The document follows my concept of what a book should be like, and Paul's wish to turn his diary into a kind of catalogue - a three-dimensional album, each double page a photograph of a still life with pictures, drawings, books, cards, and objects ... The book has the dimensions of an open newspaper, actual size. Turning the pages of the document, one turns the pages of a diary. The pictures and the objects placed on the newspaper keep changing and seem to be in constant movement. Most of the photographs are from the studio, documenting works in progress created for the Stedelijk Museum exhibition. There are pictures from other exhibitions, porno magazines, whatever was lying around, everything that surrounded us in our daily life."--Edwin Klein -- printedmatter.org (viewed 12/6/13)
'Please write!' : Paul Thek and Franz Deckwitz : an artists' friendship by Roosmarijn Hompe( Book )

2 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 47 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

From 31 January Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing letters, sculptures and documentation of environments by the American artist Paul Thek (New York 1933-1988). The exhibition is an intimate presentation focussing on the museum's collection of letters that Thek wrote to fellow artist Franz Deckwitz. Paul Thek's works range from drawings, paintings and sculptures in wax and bronze to large-scale installations. He created lumps of meat from wax, which he suspended on cables, and he painted on newspapers. He was inspired by religion, literature, theatre and everyday life. His multifaceted oeuvre occupies a unique place within the art of the 1960s and 1970s. At the heart of the exhibition are Thek's letters to his friend and fellow artist Franz Deckwitz (Schermerhorn, 1934 - Amsterdam, 1994) written between 1962 and 1988, which the museum recently acquired from Deckwitz's estate. They are shown alongside nineteen works by Thek acquired by the museum from Deckwitz's estate some twenty years ago. The letters provide an insight into Thek's life, his artistic development and his collaboration with Deckwitz. Exhibition: Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands (31.01.-31.05.2015)

Paul Thek : from cross to crib by Paul Thek( Book )

1 edition published in 2014 in German and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This publication is devoted to a little-known temporary artwork: in the winter of 1973/74 Paul Thek was a guest of the Lehmbruck-Museum in Duisburg. His expansive environment 'Ark, Pyramid - Christmas' ('The Manger') filled a whole room. It was the further development of his installation realized at the documenta 5 in Kassel (1972). This exhibition, organised by the director of the museum at the time, Siegfried Salzmann (1985-1993), was the fourth in Thek's series of atmospheric, large-scale projects in Europe, which engaged with individualised religious symbols. The festive period provided Thek with the occasion to present, for the first time, a self-written theatre piece in the form of a nativity play featuring children from Duisburg. A great quantity of original material and documents have been discovered in the museum's repository and enable a reconstruction of the exhibition in this book. Exhibition: Lehmbruck Museum Duisburg, Germany (27.04-28.07.2012)
Paul Thek : artista de artistas : obras y procesiones de 1958-1988 by Paul Thek( Book )

4 editions published in 2009 in Spanish and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
