Langsam schweift die Kamera durch die engen Gassen von Macerata, vorbei an der Kathedrale, den Monumenten, der Bibliothek und der Universität bis hin zur Arena Sferisterio. In den zwanziger Jahren des 19. Jahrhunderts diente sie als Wettkampfplatz für ein seinerzeit sehr populäres Handballspiel. Zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entdeckte man das "neoklassizistische Monster", wie der Volksmund das Stadion in respektloser Ehrfurcht nennt, aber auch als Opernbühne und glanzvolle Kulisse für das "Macerata Opera Festival". Denn mit ihren Maßen von 14,5 Metern Tiefe und 40 Meter Breite bietet die Bühne genug Platz für Veranstaltungen und Spektakel aller Art
