The life story of Sir Garfield Todd, the New Zealand missionary who became Prime Minister of Southern Rhodesia in 1953. An advocate of political and civil rights for blacks, Todd fell offside with the white minority government and was ousted from power in 1958. He remained a determined critic throughout several years of house arrest and the long period of civil war which ended with the establishment of an independent, interracial Zimbabwe.
