This thesis presents the process development for the biocatalytic reduction of prochiral ketones based on oxidoreductases. Conversion to the corresponding alcohols was catalyzed by an alcohol dehydrogenase ADH-'A' derived from Rhodococcus ruber DSM 44541. Results from the analysis of the thermodynamic equilibrium and the retention of the biocatalyst were successfully integrated into a continuously operated reactor system. Isolation and characterization of new triethylamine and ethyl acrylate degrading bacteria by Rita Issa Numeir Alayoub( )

In this study new bacteria were isolated that degrade triethylamine and ethyl acrylate. These two common industrial waste products are extremely annoying due to their exceedingly bad odour. Numerous environmental samples were collected from various sources for the screening process. Several strains were isolated and the two bacterial strains demonstrating the most efficient degradation of each odorous compound were chosen for further analysis in this study: RA1 and RA2 for triethylamine; 2C and 2Cbei for ethyl acrylate. The strains were identified as Pseudomonas citronellolis (RA1), Mycobacterium diernhoferi (RA2) and Defluvibacter lusatiensis (2C and 2Cbei). All four strains completely degraded the target compounds. The mechanisms of degradation were determined, and new degradation pathways were proposed
