Molecular machines and motors by Jean-Pierre Sauvage( Book )

14 editions published between 2001 and 2011 in English and held by 354 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The field of molecules in motion, for which movements and shape changes are triggered and controlled from outside, has been indisputably one of the most rapidly developing areas of the last decade. Clearly, molecular chemists in general are able to elaborate more and more complex species, as beautifully demonstrated by the synthesis of amazingly complicated natural products. For instance, the total synthesis of compounds such as taxol and brevetoxin B represents a formidable tour de force, as does that of many other recent examples. However, most of the time, once the compound has been made, the target has been reached. The synthesis of molecules for which given functions are to be expected and explored once sufficient amounts of the compounds are available, requires the interaction of several fields. The multidisciplinary aspect, involving various methodologies from synthesis to electro and photochemistry, from surface science to spectroscopy and magnetic properties, allows the design and elaboration of molecular objects displaying new functions. Amongst the new functions that chemists want to introduce into their systems, motion is particularly important. In addition, a geometrical change will generally be accompanied by a modification of one or more properties (colour, lumines cence, catalytic properties, etc ...) which could be used as a testimony to the motion and also be of practical interest for future applications
Transition metals in supramolecular chemistry by Jean-Pierre Sauvage( )

14 editions published between 1999 and 2008 in English and Undetermined and held by 350 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Perspectives in Supramolecular Chemistry will relate recent developments and new exciting approaches in supramolecular chemistry. In supramolecular chemistry, our aim is to understand molecular chemistry beyond the covalent bond - the series will concentrate on goal-orientated supramolecular chemistry. Perspectives in Supramolecular Chemistry will reflect research which develops supramolecular structures with specific new properties, such as recognition, transport and simulation of biosystems or new materials. The series will cover all areas from theoretical and modelling aspects through organ
Molecular catenanes, rotaxanes, and knots : a journey through the world of molecular topology by Jean-Pierre Sauvage( )

14 editions published between 1999 and 2008 in English and German and held by 350 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This journey through the fascinating world of molecular topology focuses on catenanes, rotaxanes and knots, their synthesis, properties, and applications and the theory of interlocking and interpenetrating molecules. Nearly one hundred years of progress have passed since Willsta͏̈tter's speculative vision of a molecule consisting of two interlinked rings. But even today the synthesis of such structures are a challenge to the creativity of synthetic chemists. These molecules are not only of academic interest, since they occur naturally. In such molecules as DNA, knots and related topological feat

1 edition published in 2014 in French and held by 32 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Bonding and charge distribution in polyoxometalates : a bond valence approach by D. M. P Mingos( )

3 editions published in 1999 in English and held by 31 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book presents the fundamentals of bonding in polyoxometalates and related oxides based on classical bonding concepts and the bond valence model. The in-depth treatment includes a revision of the procedure for the determination of the parameters of bond length-bond valence functions, the application of the bond valence model to polyoxometalates and related oxides, and the explanation of the distribution of the bond valences, and hence of the bond lengths, over the metal-oxygen bond and of the ionic charge on the oxygen atoms. Numerous tables and figures underline and illuminate the results. The principal author is a leader in the field of polyoxometalate chemistry. This work provides for the first time a comprehensive analysis of the structure and bonding in polyoxometalates, based on classical chemical concepts and the bond valence approach, and as such is a valuable resource for chemists, physicists and material scientists working in the field

2 editions published in 2004 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Towards dynamic multirotaxanes a nanopress to mimic the activity of molecular chaperones by Christian Tock( Book )

2 editions published between 2007 and 2008 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
