Focus on the future: fire service priorities for the 21st century by Theodore R Paulfranz( Book )

1 edition published in 1994 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Traditional approaches to fire protection planning with a view of "more of the same" are not working. Fire leaders are being challenged to find new approaches in dealing with new problems. Times are changing and the rate of change is increasing. How is the leader to understand these changes? How is the organization to prepare for the future, the 21st century? This paper suggests that trends of the future can be found in the priorities of today. This research examines current thinking in published literature, interviews with experts, and review of network activities to identify priorities and issues. The results show that most of the priorities can be grouped into ten major areas and that these groupings have changed little in the past five years. However, the issues/priorities within the groups have become more intense, diverse and critical
