Louise Bourgeois & Pablo Picasso : anatomies of desire( Book )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 75 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hauser & Wirth Zürich is proud to present 'Louise Bourgeois & Pablo Picasso: Anatomies of Desire' which opens during Zurich Art Weekend on 8 June 2019. The exhibition is the first time that Picasso is exhibited in a dual dialogue with a female sculptor and brings together over 90 works including paintings, sculptures and works on paper from important public institutions and private collections such as the Fondation Beyeler (Riehen/Basel), Nasher Sculpture Center (Dallas), and Kunstmuseum Den Haag (The Hague). Curated by highly renowned specialist Marie-Laure Bernadac, former curator at the Louvre, Musée Picasso (Paris), and Centre Pompidou, the exhibition is organised in close collaboration with the Louise Bourgeois Studio. The aim of the exhibition is to foster a discourse on the work of Bourgeois and Picasso by exploring the differences and affinities in the artists? formal, thematic and iconographic language. The presentation will display intentional pairings of works, 'by placing these artists together for comparative analysis, this exhibition sheds new light on their oeuvres and rids us of the clichés of the virile painter armed with a phallic brush and the sculptress armed with a knife,' explains curator Marie-Laure Bernadac. The original inspiration for the pairing came from an exhibition organised by the Beyeler Foundation in 2011, curated by Ulf Küster, which presented works by Bourgeois in dialogue with works by modern masters from the Beyeler collection confirming the artist?s position as one of the key bridges between modern and contemporary art. Exhibition: Hauser & Wirth, Zürich, Switzerland (09.06. - 14.09.2019)
Metro by Alasdair Duncan( Book )

5 editions published between 2006 and 2008 in English and held by 73 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Liam Kelly is the very model of the modern male - boys want to be him, girls want to be with him. He and his group of loyal mates spend their days driving around town, drinking beer and very occasionally going to lectures. His good looks compensate, everyone agrees, for his superior attitude and rivate-school arrogance. Liam and his girlfriend Sara seem to be the perfect couple, but when she leaves for a European trip without him the facade begins to crumble. He sees six months of freedom ahead, unaware that the consequences of his bad-boy behavior will threaten the image he has so carefully created. Metro is a satirical tale of morality, masculinity and money from the internationally acclaimed author of Sushi Central

From an edgy new voice comes a frenetic novel about boredom, porn, and pills. Brandishing a unique, comic worldview, Alasdair Duncan assembles a surprising, devastating narrative using dialogue, emails, Internet chats, fantasies, notebook entries, blips from video games, and more. Calvin is sixteen and bored with suburban life. But in the city, things are altogether more exciting. It's there that Calvin meets Anthony -- and the two boys quickly become obsessed with each other. Then Calvin discovers pictures of Anthony on a pornographic website and is drawn into his new friend's seedy underworld. Just as he's discovering what's like when first love meets first sex, when friendship meets lust, and when love meets loss, his teen angst morphs into full-on self-destructivness ... and puts him on the path to an absolutely shocking series of events. With total command of the world he creates for his characters -- in which the computer is just another pill you can pop, another way to run and hide, like drinking or drugging or having sex -- Alsdair Duncan makes an auspicious debut
