Becket by Peter Glenville( Visual )

3 editions published between 1964 and 2007 in English and held by 1,511 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Despite differences in rank and background, King Henry II and Thomas Becket are lifelong friends. The King is in constant conflict with the Church, which refuses to contribute financing to his wars in France, and jealously guards the tax-free status granted it by previous monarchs. When the Archbishop of Canterbury dies, Henry has a brilliant idea: rather than another pious cleric loyal to Rome, he will appoint his old friend, Thomas Becket--technically a deacon--to the post. Unfortunately, Becket takes the job seriously, holding devotion to God and the Church above his loyalty to the throne, or the person of its inhabitant. In opposition to Henry, he proves abler than his predecessors do, and the clash of two powerful personalities leads to destruction
Hamlet by William Shakespeare( Visual )

5 editions published between 1948 and 2003 in English and German and held by 1,316 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Hamlet, son of the king of Denmark, is summoned home for his father's funeral and his mother's wedding to his uncle. In a supernatural episode, he discovers that his uncle, whom he hates anyway, murdered his father. In an incredibly convoluted plot--the most complicated and most interesting in all literature--he manages to (impossible to put this in exact order) feign (or perhaps not to feign) madness, murder the "prime minister," love and then unlove an innocent whom he drives to madness, plot and then unplot against the uncle, direct a play within a play, successfully conspire against the lives of two well-meaning friends, and finally take his revenge on the uncle, but only at the cost of almost every life on stage, including his own and his mother's. -- from http://www.imdb.com (Sep. 20, 2011)

The parallel is the goal of a small group of Nazis, survivors of a U-boat that has been spotted and sunk in Hudson Bay, deep in Canadian waters. The United States is not yet at war with Germany, and if Corporal Hirth and his six crew members can reach it, they can be repatriated to Germany with no fuss. But their trek across Canada becomes a fierce struggle to survive, as they encounter and are opposed in turn by Johnnie the trapper, a small Hutterite community, a Canadian intellectual, and a Canadian soldier gone AWOL
