Industrial theatre is an increasingly popular way of introducing new ideas to employees and management alike. This example deals with the much misunderstood idea of affirmative action and was originally written by Neil McCarthy for Labour Link. Very much a production that reflects local attitudes, it follows the experiences of Arthur Mhlangu, newly promoted to the management team of Happy Stores, as he finds that he has been given neither a job nor any real power and still has to cope with the entrenched racism of his superior, 'Stoneage' Fourie. It depicts the worst-case scenario some affirmative action appointees might face, though it does hold out hope for the future. Actors John Maytham and Themba Ndaba play all the roles, including the female ones, and though all the characters are broad stereotypes, the situations are certainly recognisable
