An estate agent's clerk (von Wangenheim) leaves his bride (Schroeder) in the city of Bremen to conduct business in the distant Carpathian mountains, with an eccentric client named Graf Orlok (Schreck). However, the closer he gets to his destination, the more terrified become the people he meets. What he finds at Orlok's sinister castle is more horrifying than he could possibly have imagined ... This was the very first film to be based on Bram Stoker's now infamous novel "Dracula". Names and locations were changed but Stoker's estate, who had not given permission for the novel to be filmed, recognised the obvious and alarming similarities and sued the producers. An English judge ordered all copies of the film to be destroyed and the original negative burned. Fortunately for us, prints survived in Germany

3 editions published in 1922 in German and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The first cinematic adaptation of Bram Stoker's novel Dracula received an unexpected publicity boost when Bram Stoker's widow sued the producers for breach of copyright. The resulting controversy increased ticket sales as well as sales of Stoker's novel. Actor Max Schreck's portrait of the vampire Nosferatu, in the first vampire film, became a touchstone for the dozens of imitations that would follow. With his bald head, long talons and gangly silhouette, Schreck's Nosferatu defined the genre for decades. After selling his castle to the hapless real estate agent Hutter, Count Orlok, (the vampire Nosferatu) leaves his native Transylvania and travels by sea to Bremen, in a ship carrying coffins filled with dirt and plague infested rats. When the boat arrives in Bremen without crew or captain, it is clear that they have fallen victim to the insatiable Nosferatu during the course of the voyage. Once in port, the rats invade the city, spreading the plague as they move from house to house. Determined to stop this evil from consuming the city, Hutter's young wife Nina decides to keep the monstrous vampire by her bed until sunrise, when he will melt in the rays of the sun

Shortly after its 1922 premiere, Murnau's masterpiece became subject of a bitter lawsuit. As a result, all known copies of this bloodsucking classic were destroyed. Or so it was believed . . . Eighty-seven years later, Quality Cheese Productions unleashes this unnerving stereoscopic nightmare. Prepare for a filmic feeding frenzy of fright. Bonus features: Introduction by Troma sensation LLoyd Kaufman, creator of the Toxic Avenger." --Container
Nosferatu : eine Symphonie des Grauens = a symphony of horror( Visual )

2 editions published in 2013 and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The quintessential silent vampire film, crafted by legendary German director F.W. Murnau. Rather than depicting Dracula as a shape-shifting monster or debonair gentleman, Murnau's Graf Orlok is a nightmarish, spidery creature of bulbous head and taloned claws, perhaps the most genuinely disturbing incarnation of vampirism yet envisioned
