Brownian motion by Peter Mörters( Book )

8 editions published between 2010 and 2012 in English and held by 323 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This textbook offers a broad and deep exposition of Brownian motion. Extensively class tested, it leads the reader from the basics to the latest research in the area." "Starting with the construction of Brownian motion, the book then proceeds to sample path properties such as continuity and nowhere differentiability. Notions of fractal dimension are introduced early and are used throughout the book to describe fine properties of Brownian paths. The relation of Brownian motion and random walk is explored from several viewpoints, including a development of the theory of Brownian local times from random walk embeddings. Stochastic integration is introduced as a tool, and an accessible treatment of the potential theory of Brownian motion clears the path for an extensive treatment of intersections of Brownian paths. An investigation of exceptional points on the Brownian path and an appendix on SLE processes, by Oded Schramm and Wendelin Werner, lead directly to recent research themes."--Jacket
Lectures on probability theory and statistics : Ecole d'Eté de Probabilités de Saint-Flour XXXII-2002 by Boris Tsirelson( Book )

19 editions published in 2004 in English and German and held by 321 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is yet another indispensable volume for all probabilists and collectors of the Saint-Flour series, and is also of great interest for mathematical physicists. It contains two of the three lecture courses given at the 32nd Probability Summer School in Saint-Flour (July 7-24, 2002). Boris Tsirelson's lectures introduce the notion of nonclassical noise produced by very nonlinear functions of many independent random variables, for instance singular stochastic flows or oriented percolation. Two examples are examined (noise made by a Poisson snake, the Brownian web). A new framework for the scaling limit is proposed, as well as old and new results about noises, stability, and spectral measures. Wendelin Werner's contribution gives a survey of results on conformal invariance, scaling limits and properties of some two-dimensional random curves. It provides a definition and properties of the Schramm-Loewner evolutions, computations (probabilities, critical exponents), the relation with critical exponents of planar Brownian motions, planar self-avoiding walks, critical percolation, loop-erased random walks and uniform spanning trees

Max Baumstein is a reputable businessman, a rich self-made man with a conscience - he founded a highly visible and active international organization fighting against violations of human rights. Why would he commit an act that apparently negates the principles he has striven for so long to uphold? Eventually, he reveals a secret about himself that he kept hidden from his younger wife Lina, and that in a roundabout way concerns her as well. It is the conclusion of a struggle that started many decades earlier, when Elsa Wiener, a German singer exiled in Paris, without money or relations, a refugee among many others, faced two daunting problems: surviving in a foreign city, and saving her husband Michel from the clutches of the Nazis
REFLEXION, COALESCENCE ET RETOURNEMENT DU TEMPS POUR CERTAINES FAMILLES DE DIFFUSIONS by FLORIN SOUCALIUC( Book )

1 edition published in 2001 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

LE THEME GENERAL DU PRESENT TRAVAIL EST L'ETUDE DES LIENS ENTRE RETOURNEMENT DU TEMPS, REFLEXION ET COALESCENCE POUR CERTAINES FAMILLES DE DIFFUSIONS. DANS UN PREMIER TEMPS ON S'INTERESSE AU CAS A PRIORI LE PLUS SIMPLE, MAIS QUI S'EST AVERE RECELER DES FAITS SURPRENANTS, A SAVOIR CELUI DES FAMILLES DE MOUVEMENTS BROWNIENS COALESCENTS ET REFLECHISSANTS. UN PREMIER RESULTAT SIMPLE (AU DEBUT DU CHAPITRE I, UNE AUTRE PREUVE FAISANT L'OBJET DU COURT CHAPITRE II) QUI RESSORT DE CETTE ETUDE AFFIRME QU'UN MOUVEMENT BROWNIEN REFLECHI SUR UN MOUVEMENT BROWNIEN RETOURNE INDEPENDANT RESTE UN MOUVEMENT BROWNIEN. CE RESULTAT EST GENERALISE DANS DIVERSES DIRECTIONS : DANS LE CHAPITRE I, POUR DES FAMILLES DE MOUVEMENTS BROWNIENS COALESCENTS ET REFLECHISSANTS, DANS LE CHAPITRE IV EN REMPLACANT LES MOUVEMENTS BROWNIENS PAR DEUX DIFFUSIONS CONJUGUEES (OU DUALES). LE CAS DE DEUX PROCESSUS DE BESSEL DE DIMENSIONS RESPECTIVES ET 2 RECOIT UNE ATTENTION PARTICULIERE, EN RAISON DE SON INTERPRETATION POSSIBLE COMME LIMITES DE COURBES DU TEMPS LOCAL DE CERTAINES MARCHES ALEATOIRES AUTO-REPOUSSANTES. LE CHAPITRE III EST CONSACRE A UNE ETUDE SYSTEMATIQUE DES DIFFUSIONS REELLES A BARRIERES REFLECHISSANTES GENERALISEES, POUR LESQUELLES DES RESULTATS D'APPROXIMATION PAR DES MARCHES ALEATOIRES SONT ETABLIS AU DEBUT DU CHAPITRE IV
Mouvement brownien plan, SLE, invariance conforme et dimensions fractales by Vincent Beffara( Book )

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This thesis is dedicated to the study of various geometric properties of planar Brownian motion and the SLE process (also known as stochastic Loewner evolution). We prove that, on a typical planar Brownian path, there almost surely exist "pivoting" points, i.e. cut-points around which one half of the curve can rotate by a positive angle without ever intersecting the other half of the path; the set of all pivoting points of a given positive (small enough) angle is then of positive Hausdorff dimension. About SLE, the main result we obtain in this thesis is the computation of the Hausdorff dimension of the curve generating it (the dimension is equal to one plus one eighth of the parameter), for any positive parameter smaller than eight and different from four. We also study the problem of the generalization of the SLE process to non-simply connected surfaces; we show that the construction is doable for two particular values of the parameter (six and eight thirds), but the universality property of usual SLE 1S then lost
Sur le processus de Schramm-Loewner et la limite continue de la percolation critique plane by Julien Dubédat( Book )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

1 edition published in 2008 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This thesis consists of six chapters, studying various questions related to percolation near criticality in two dimensions. In chapter 1, we present in detail Kesten's results and techniques allowing to describe near-critical percolation, and we derive some new consequences. We then apply these ideas in the next chapters : we study successively a model of incipient infinite cluster (chapter 2), the geometric properties of interfaces in near-critical regime (chapter 3), the gradient percolation model (chapters 4 and 5), which is a model of inhomogeneous percolation, and finally some diffusion model (chapter 6), for which we show that a fractal geometry spontaneously arises

Lectures on probability theory and statistics : Ecole d'Eté de Probabilités de Saint-Flour XXXIII-2003 by Amir Dembo( Book )

1 edition published in 2005 in German and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This volume contains two of the three lectures that were given at the 33rd Probability Summer School in Saint-Flour (July 6-23, 2003). Amir Dembo's course is devoted to recent studies of the fractal nature of random sets, focusing on some fine properties of the sample path of random walk and Brownian motion. In particular, the cover time for Markov chains, the dimension of discrete limsup random fractals, the multi-scale truncated second moment and the Ciesielski-Taylor identities are explored. Tadahisa Funaki's course reviews recent developments of the mathematical theory on stochastic interface models, mostly on the so-called \nabla \varphi interface model. The results are formulated as classical limit theorems in probability theory, and the text serves with good applications of basic probability techniques
