Sinopsis Ursus, regresa a su país, después de largos años de guerra, para reunirse con Attea, su novia, hija del escultor Clio. Pero al llegar, Doreida, esclava ciega de Setas, le informa que Clio ha sido asesinado y Attea raptada. Ursus descubre que Setas está involucrado en estos actos y al sentirse descubierto, trata de liberarse de Ursus, pero éste le hace prisionero y junto con Doreida se dirige a las islas Zaas, donde según sus noticias Attea ha sido conducida. Llegados a Zaas, son capturados por los crueles y fanáticos adoradores de la diosa del mismo nombre, un ídolo que en parte es mujer y en parte toro. Los sacerdotes de Zaas condenan a muerte a Ursus y a esclavitud a Doreida. Sin embargo la reina le perdona la vida y le invita a visitarle a sus habitaciones privadas. Resulta ser la propia Attea, y que el amor de Mok, gran sacerdote, ha elevado a este rango. Celoso de Ursus, Mok decide eliminar al héroe. Se vale de Setas, que odia a Ursus. Pero en la lucha entablada por los dos, en presencia de la reina, la propia reina mata a Setas. Ursus se da cuenta de que Attea se ha transformado en una mujer cruel y sanguinaria y siente que su amor por ella se ha extinguido. Attea, desairada, le condena a muerte, no sin que antes presencie cómo el toro sagrado de Zaas destroza a Doreida. Cuando el toro sale al circo y la joven y desvalida ciega es arrojada a la arena, Ursus, con un gran esfuerzo, rompe sus cadenas y lucha con la bestia y consigue matar al toro. Doreida, a consecuencia de un golpe Zaas se pone al lado de Ursus. Mok mata a la reina. Después de un terrible combate, Ursus y sus leales alcanzan la victoria, terminando con la vida y la tiranía de Mok
