Alexander McQueen : savage beauty by Andrew Bolton( Book )

11 editions published in 2011 in English and held by 1,144 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The exhibition, organized by The Costume Institute, will celebrate the late Alexander McQueen's extraordinary contributions to fashion. From his postgraduate collection of 1992 to his final runway presentation which took place after his death in February 2010, Mr. McQueen challenged and expanded the understanding of fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. His iconic designs constitute the work of an artist whose medium of expression was fashion. Approximately one hundred examples will be on view, including signature designs such as the bumster trouser, the kimono jacket, and the Origami frock coat, as well as pieces reflecting the exaggerated silhouettes of the 1860s, 1880s, 1890s, and 1950s that he crafted into contemporary silhouettes transmitting romantic narratives. Technical ingenuity imbued his designs with an innovative sensibility that kept him at fashion's vanguard." -- MMA website

Inferno : Alexander McQueen : an intimate portrait of his seminal show Dante, autumn/winter 1996-97 by Kent Baker( Book )

2 editions published in 2015 in English and held by 103 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

London 1996: Alexander McQueen took over the Hawksmoor masterpiece Christ Church in Londons East End for what was quite possibly the greatest fashion show on Earth. A candle-lit, cruciform catwalk with a backdrop of stained-glass windows set the tone for an extraordinary collection. Lace sat against chiffon and rubbed shoulders with couture and club-culture clothing and digital print. Dante was the seminal collection that would resonate throughout Alexander McQueens career. This book features unique photographs shot behind the scenes, with raw, unseen pictures of the designer, models and clothes. The fashion creatives who worked with McQueen to make the show such a success recall this pivotal time in the designers career and reflect on what made Dante truly groundbreaking. Newly created imagery of clothes shown on the catwalk gives an insight into why this collection was so special

Alexander McQueen : working process by Nick Waplington( Book )

3 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Nick Waplington: Alexander McQueen", Tate Britain exhibition 10 March - 17 May 2015. This major exhibition is the result of a unique collaboration between the artist Nick Waplington (b 1965) and the acclaimed fashion designer Alexander McQueen (1969-2010). In 2009, Waplington was given unprecedented access to McQueen's idiosyncratic creative journey as he prepared his final Autumn/Winter collection, Horn of Plenty. McQueen conceived the Horn of Plenty collection as an iconoclastic retrospective of his career in fashion, reusing silhouettes and fabrics from his earlier collections, and creating a catwalk set out of discarded elements from the sets of his past shows. Their collaboration reveals a raw side of the fashion world, juxtaposing Waplington's candid images of McQueen's intense and theatrical working process with rigorously produced photographs of recycling plants and landfills, creating a powerful commentary on destruction and creative renewal".--Tate website

Toys : black set( Visual )

1 edition published in 2004 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"With the set of limited-edition designer Kidrobot toys that comprised issue 44, Visionaire just wanted to have fun. But it (inadvertently?) set off a worldwide craze for the ten delightfully witty humanoid characters created by designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton. Complete with mini accessories like cell phones, cameras, and martini glasses, this army of toys was part of one of the most highly sought-after Visionaire issues ever--grown adults behaved a lot like children in attempts to get their hands on a copy. For Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz, the series defined a moment for his toy label, expanding beyond its strictly street fan base. "We were really just kind of emerging," Budnitz remembers. "We were focused on working with graffiti artists and street artists, and Visionaire was a way for us to connect with designers, which was really fun." While most of the issue's toys wear innocent smiles, Budnitz saw a vaguely sexual element in their slightly phallic shape, which was designed by Visionaire's Greg Foley. But he concedes, "at the same time, they were very sweet and modern and sophisticated""--Publisher's description
Radical fashion by Victoria and Albert Museum( Book )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Three major trends currently dominate international fashion: the invasion of Paris couture houses by hip British designers; the creation of highly conceptual collections by austere European minimalists; and the near-architectural construction of contemporary Japanese clothes. Spearheading these movements are members of what could be called the old-school avant-garde -- uncompromising yet established designers like Alexander McQueen and Hussein Chalayan, martin Margiela and Helmut Lang, Rei Kawakubo and Issey Miyake. The official publication of the exhibition of the same name at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Radical Fashion spotlights the work of 11 such mavericks. Stunning photo-essays, created by the individual designers specially for the book, paired with stimulating commentary by curators and fashion historians, make this look book the ultimate accessory for anyone addicted to style
Alexander McQueen, Autumn/Winter 1995 : highland rape by Alexander McQueen( Visual )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Alexander McQueen's Autumn/Winter 1995 collection 'Highland Rape' was shown at London fashion week, in the Natural History museum on 13th March 1995. Referencing McQueen's ancestry and subverting the romanticism about Scotland's past, it was the first show to utilise McQueen tartan and featured clothes that had been abused to expose flesh. Moreover, this collection was one of the most prominent outings of McQueen's infamous 'bumster' pants. Initially misinterpreted as a misogynistic reference to the rape of women, Highland Rape referenced the Jacobite risings of the eighteenth century and the Highland Clearances of the nineteenth century. Ripped and torn edges, armoured breastplates, tartan kilts, military jackets, subverted lace, PVC full skirts, and fetishistic studded collars and panties alluded to the conflicts, worn by models who stumbled or stalked, spat or gesticulated down the runway. Their hair was long and matted, with streaks of red paint and feathers caught up in the strands and black contact lenses masked eyes."--Bloomsbury Publishing
Givenchy, Autumn/Winter 1997 by Alexander McQueen( Visual )

1 edition published in 2019 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Alexander McQueen's 1997 Autumn/Winter collection for Givenchy was presented at Paris fashion week. This was McQueen's first ready-to-wear show for Givenchy, following his couture debut 'Search for the Golden Fleece' earlier in the year. Featuring animal print leathers and furs, sequin patterns of birds of paradise, and draping details such as peplum-style skirt tails, the collection held a mature mirror to the collection he designed in the same year for own his eponymous brand, named "It's a Jungle Out There". Pointed shoulders, floor-length tailored cloaks, and oversized furs added drama to this earth-toned & tailored collection that was interspersed with jolts of purple. Accessories included cheetah print gloves, leather skinny belts, fishnet tights, and cadet-style caps and each look was worn with stiletto heels. For hair, the models wore large crimped cone head wigs with heavy, blunt, precision cut fringes, and eyes were subtly smoky."--Bloomsbury Publishing
