Lionel Trilling : negative capability and the wisdom of avoidance by Robert Boyers( Book )

1 edition published in 1977 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Boyers examines the work of author and literary critic, Lionel Trilling, identifying a major theme of Trilling's writing style, criticism, and personal political stance as the avoidance of ideology. Boyers acknowledges this theme is central to Trilling's ability to describe an idea fully in all its complexity

Tom Benton's Missouri( Visual )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"One Sunday afternoon in 1984, the legendary Bob Dyer sang his ballads of Missouri history in the Capitol's House Lounge with Thomas Hart Benton's painted walls crammed with the life of the state looming above him. Frank Fillo and I carefully recorded the session on an ancient Nagra tape recorder. That evening, over a couple of milkshakes, we came up with the idea to make a documentary about the mural that would feature Bob's music. Eight years later, "Tom Benton's Missouri", a half-hour 16 mm film, premiered, starring Benton himself as narrator of his most ambitious mural. The film was broadcast around the country on PBS and it was distributed in a VHS format for Missouri schools. Now, a generation later, "Tom Benton's Missouri" has been reincarnated in a high-definition digital format, and there's a resource-rich educator's guide that is at your disposal to spark original ways of presenting, discussing, and interacting with the greatest painted walls west of the Sistine Chapel and north of Mexico City. The dedicated team that created the film, the digital video, audio files, and this guide profoundly hopes that you and your students will have big fun exploring Benton's works with the help of these tools"--Container

Research on additive manufacturing of metallic glass alloy by Yiyu Shen( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"The required rapid cooling has limited the dimension of the Bulk Metallic glasses (BMGs) produced by traditional method, and hence has seriously limited their applications, despite their remarkable mechanical properties. In this present project, a detailed study is conducted on the methodology and understanding of manufacturing large Zr- based metallic glass part by laser based additive manufacturing technology, which breaks the size limitation. The first research issue proposes and develops a new additive manufacturing technology, named Laser-Foil-Printing (LFP). Sheet foils of LM105 (Zr[sub 52.5]Ti₅Al₁₀Ni[sub 14.6]Cu[sub17.9] (at. %)) metallic glass are used as feed stork. Fully amorphous 3D structures are successfully achieved. The second research issue focus on investigating the temperature evolution during laser-BMG interaction. By combining experimental measurement and mathematical model, the dynamic temperature field evolution during laser-BMG interaction is simulated. The developed model not only optimizes the LFP process, but also helps us in further understanding the fundamental crystallization mechanism during laser-BMG interaction. The crystalline phase evolution during laser-MG interaction is studied in the third research issue, using the classical nucleation theory (CNT). Combining with the temperature model, the volume fraction of crystallized BMG is calculated. The result successfully explains the observation of crystalline phase within both the fusion zone (FZ) and the heat-affected-zone (HAZ) of laser processed BMG. This thesis is a proven road map for developing metallic glass structures using additive manufacturing technology. The research results of this dissertation can benefit a wide range industry, such as 3D printing, material science, medical and aerospace"--Abstract, page iv
