Emancipating the banking system and developing markets for government debt by Maxwell J Fry( Book )

2 editions published in 1997 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Monetary policy in developing countries is largely based on a system introduced in the 1960s. Emancipating the Banking System and Developing Markets for Government Debt illustrates how this outdated system has led to financial repression and suggests some alternatives. Maxwell Fry is one of the leading experts in this area. His book will provide a much-needed study for those studying development and finance economics at an advanced level
Payment systems in global perspective( Book )

1 edition published in 1999 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Information on the payments arrangements in transitional and developing countries is both scarce and not generally available in a form suitable for comparative analysis. So in January 1998, the Bank of England asked central banks in a sample of countries, hereafter referred to as the BoE group, to complete a questionnaire (reproduced in the Appendix) to supplement publish information, as well as to acquire comparative data for analytical purposes. The questionnaire responses provide additional statistical and institutional information that we report and analyse in this study of selected aspects of payment systems in industrial, transitional and developing countries from a central bank's perspective. As we did not choose the 70 countries listed in Table 1.1 at random, they are not necessarily representative. We chose them because members of their central banks attended conferences on payment systems at the Bank for International Settlements in December 1997 or at the Bank of England in January 1998 or were invited to the bank of England's Central Bank Governors' Symposium in June 1998

Monetary policy in Britain and Europe by Eddie George( )

2 editions published between 2001 and 2010 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In this article the Governor of the Bank of England reviews the announced changes to the UK monetary policy framework, in the context of the approach to economic management throughout Europe. He identifies a broad consensus on the need for monetary policy to be directed towards stability and sustainability in the medium and longer term, and a growing recognition of the importance of supply-side flexibility. The Governor compares the new UK monetary policy arrangements with those planned for Europe, and concludes that the essential similarities are much greater than the differences. He warns, however, of the potential risk to monetary union posed by very high and differing rates of unemployment in the European Union.--SCAD summary
