For the mistral( Visual )

This film explores the moods and visual patterns evoked by the famous Mistral, a wind that sweeps over southern France every year. The film follows the course of the Mistral as it originates in the Alps and moves across France to the Mediterranean Sea. Natural sounds and creative camera work are intercut to recreate the effect of the fury of the wind on the life of southern France. At the same time the film is filled with intimate moments of daily life, images of hats being blown away and letters pulled out of mail boxes as the Mistral comes to life. Joris Ivens first films were silent portraits of his native Holland, one of them Rain, was an earlier study of the patterns and rhythms of wind and rainfall. Ivens made more than fifty films during his career many of which focus on the struggles for democracy that were taking place during the 20th century
