This dvd contains two films produced in Germany during the Nazi era, Die Deutsche Wochenschau a newsreel describing events at home and on the battlefield during the week of August 8th, 1944, and the feature film Die Hochstaplerin. The newsreel begins with a visit to a vast construction project which is underway in anticipation of the Allied attack on Germany. Battalions of Hitler Youth are digging miles of trenches through the German countryside. Teenagers as well as middle aged men and women can be seen building the trenches. Then to the Eastern front where German artillery has destroyed a Soviet village. Soviet prisoners can be seen marching past burning tanks. In France, in the countryside surrounding Cherbourg, German troops have rounded up dozens of French terrorists. We are shown the damaged vehicles which were the focus of a successful terrorist attack. Then the newsreel visits a bunker where Field Marshall Von Kluge is explaining his plans for the defense of Normandy. (Field Marshall Von Kluge committed suicide shortly after this film was made). In the feature film Die Hochstaplerin, Thea, an attractive socialite who likes to play roulette, has just lost all her money at the casino. Thea's hotel bill still has to be paid, so the concierge makes a deal with her, if Thea will play the role of the "great countess" and lure more guests to the hotel, the staff will tear up her bill. However, Thea prefers to spend her nights on the road in the sports car of her lover Dieter. While driving on the highway, Thea and Dieter barely escape a collision with the vehicle of the lawyer Michael Jurgens. Jurgens has come to the hotel to persuade Dieter to scrap his marital plans. In short order, Thea and Jurgens strike up an affair

Der grosse preis : Die Deutsche wochenschau( Visual )

1 edition published in 2012 in German and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This dvd contains two films produced in Germany during the Nazi era, Die Deutsche Wochenschau and Der Grosse Preis. The first, Die Deutsche Wochenschau, is a German newsreel from October 26th, 1944, which might have played in front of the feature film. The newsreel begins in North Africa with a visit to General Rommel on the front lines. Then back to Germany where Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt is presiding over the funeral of a German general. The camera follows the general's coffin as it is pulled through the streets on a gun carriage. Then to Finland, where we see a train stacked high with the suitcases of refugees fleeing the Soviet advance. The newsreel then moves to Strasbourg to and the fighting on the western front. We see several American tanks burning by the side of a road. The newsreel ends with a large public rally celebrating members of the Hitler Youth brigades and retirees who have volunteered to defend the Reich. The film ends as teenagers and old men armed with rifles prepare to march against the advancing Soviet and Allied armies. In the feature film Der Grosse Preis, foreman Kramp in addition to his day job at an automobile factory, is feverishly working during the weekends to develop a new light-metal alloy piston. Just as he is about to complete his invention, Kramp suffers a heart attack. After a few weeks of physical therapy, he returns from the hospital only to discover that a colleague has stolen his idea and is selling it as his own
