Le songe de Médée( Visual )

5 editions published between 2004 and 2007 in 3 languages and held by 207 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A creation by the choreographer Angelin Preljocaj for the Opera national de Paris Ballet in 2004. The most horrible crimes, fratricide and infanticide, are embodied by the Medee interpreted by the étoile Marie-Agnès Gillot. For his third creation at the Opéra de Paris, Preljocaj was inspired by Médée: not the one we find in the mythological stories, but the ones who make the contemporary headlines. How could we possibly understand this woman's sacrilege if we don't interpret it as the terrible willing of stopping belonging to the human kind? The score was written by the Venitian composer Mauro Lanza, born in 1975. It was ordered by the Paris Opera and the Ircam-Centre Pompidou, where the composer is in residence

Daphnis et Chloé( Visual )

1 edition published in 2014 in English and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In his third collaboration with the Paris Opera Ballet in 2014, Benjamin Millepied created a daring new choreography of Ravel's Daphnis et Chloé that was a triumph with audiences and critics alike. The brilliant premiere production at Paris's Opéra Bastille starred the captivating pair of Étoile dancers Hervé Moreau (Daphnis) and Aurélie Dupont (Chloé) joined by Eleonora Abbagnato (Lycénion), and featured a stage design by Daniel Buren! Maurice Ravel's ravishing symphonie chorégraphique ("choreographic symphony") sets to music the tale of two lovers, the shepherd Daphnis and shepardess Chloé, from a romance by 2nd-century Greek writer Longus. Originally commissioned by Sergei Diaghilev and choreographed by Michel Fokine, the work was premiered by the legendary Ballets Russes in 1912 at the Théâtre du Châtelet. In his new choreography of this early 20th century classic, Benjamin Millepied superbly blends modern dance and classical ballet. Music Director Philippe Jordan leads the Orchestre de l'Opéra de Paris in a performance of Ravel's lush score in its entirety, music widely regarded as some of his best and most passionate!
